Car in garage for long time insurance?
Discussion
If a car is in a workshop for maybe 3 months, what is the best plan regarding insurance?
i know DVLA can warn the owner about a possible fine
"The registered keeper of a vehicle that appears to be uninsured will be sent an Insurance Advisory Letter (IAL). This letter will advise them their vehicle appears to be uninsured and unless they take action they will receive a penalty from the DVLA."
At which point would it be best to SORN it?
This is besides the question of does the garage insurance cover potential loss?
(its a main dealer BTW)

Unless your renewal is early within that period (so it lapses), cancelling will cost you admin fees and loss of another year's NCD.
Insurers rarely if ever refund premiums on days left (yearly £365, you cancel on day 300 and get 65 back) but their own pro-rata rates which typically mean zilch once the policy is 4- 5 months in - and little back before that. It will be in the conditions, as will the admin charge.
If you are building NCD it is best to leave it, at least you won't risk an accident in that period

Certainly be worth checking and getting something in writing if you'te going to rely on it - I've seen a few disputes about cars being stolen or destroyed by fire (both within the vehicle and the premises) and apparently the garages insurance doesn't usually cover it.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
