Overtaking A Police Van at Speed!

My wife just dropped into the breakfast conversation that on Saturday she went past a Police Van on the M1 North (all marked up) at around 80-85mph.
In my car !
It was doing around 65-70mph,she thinks, so not a camera van parked up.
She noticed this in her mirror as she went past then pulled back in from the overtaking lane.
Two occupants in the van.
As not to raise suspicion, she kept at her speed.
Love that bit.
I'm now thinking two Policemen, could, if they wanted, write this up.
What does PH think might,might not happen?

Depends what frame of mind I guess, two in a van with a non calibrated speedo is good enough.

I thought with the performance of modern Vans, they would have just accelerated and pulled her over.
I'm finding this quite amusing, as she is normally a 'Goody two shoes' when it comes to driving!
She will have to squirm for a few days.
Weird this kinda happened to me on the M4 this weekend, I was doing an indicated 77 on cruise as was most of the traffic and the van was doing about 70 - slowed down a notch, passed it and went into lane 1. Only then it sped up and did about 80 for a mile or 2 in lane 2 lane hogging, before slowing back to 60-70.
In the end some helmets passed it at about 85+ and it didn't engage so I gradually pulled away. It was interesting how much traffic had clustered around it where previously everyone was safely doing 75-80 with distance and for once with good lane discipline, instead they were now doing 70 bumper to bumper!

There'll be a whole bunch of reasons (vehicle / training / equipment etc) why they're 'not allowed' to stop people on the motorway, I guess apart from if they think there's risk to life..
If they’re not traffic cops they’re generally not going to do anything. Most cop cars won’t be able to record your speed and I guess would stop you for a warning chat if they did want to take it further. The only recent police vehicle I’ve seen on the motorways has been a van which looked to have a civilian driver.
