It's not for me but my cousin brother. Passed his test in August and got insured about 6 weeks ago. Got caught in the A1 southbound camera in Beeston Bedfordshire. He was doing 65 in a 50 zone. It seems the speed awareness course is offered until 64mph. If he writes an apologetic hand written letter when returning the NIP back, does he have a chance of getting offered the course. From what I gather its at the police officers discretion when dealing with the matter. If he doesn't get the course, what's the penalty he's looking at?

I doubt anyone will take notice of a letter??
It will be £100 and 3 points, plus an increase insurance.

It'll be 3 points and £100.

You can try asking for a course, but I suspect the chances of them agreeing would be slim to none.

I think it will be slim chance he'll get a course. I hope he does get a course because I feel it'll help him out so much more

Why do you think you are any more important than all the thousands of other drivers that caught for speeding?

He needs to be careful, probably not the first time speeding but the first time caught.

He is moving into licence revoking territory and a retest and very high insurance premiums. This should at least be a wake up call for him.

Is he on a black box insurance policy?

How do you get caught out there ? It's flipping annoying limit & frustrating, but there's loads of signs regarding the speed limit & it being camera enforced.

Maybe he needs to learn to read the road, and not keep looking at all the sex shops on the A1 wink

If he wants to speed he needs to wait until he gets to the A1M at Baldock, then there's no speed cameras.

Could you not read the post properly from way up there on your high horse? Not the OP that's been speeding or asking for personal lenience.

Thresholds are set in stone. He's over the limit. He wont be offered a course at 65MPH. £100 and three points with a fixed penalty ticket.

There’s no such thing as a “cousin brother”. Is it half term again?
