On duty policeman at kids football match

What’s the deal with this?

Full uniform, car parked in car park, watched the whole match.

Is this common? i.e. he’s waiting it a shout, or is he playing hooky? No judgement.

Just trying to understand if this is normal, my brother in law is a fireman and he does 99% sod all and 1% putting out fires.

Or is he off duty?

When I had a restaurant a copper mate of mine used to stop for a coffee and whatever he could scrounge to eat while on duty. He always radioed in someting or other to the effect he was taking a break or not available. I can't imagine you go out on a long shift without the ability to be off duty for a period of time.

Could be any one of a hundred reasons tbh; doing paperwork, or there because someone had called the police to report an issue, or maybe they were hoping to see/catch a known suspect who was possibly going to attend the match...

Well obviously he was a nonce. Looking at kids.

Unless you asked him or her, why do you think anyonenof us is going to know why he was there? FML. Maybe it was because some parents get a bit funny living vicariously through their kids and start shouting and swearing. Who knows?

I was asking if it was considered normal, not if anyone knew why he was there.

I suspect he was just parked there having a break. Or in case it all kicked off.

I've highlighted what I think is relevant context, given you missed a crucial apostrophe out of the title.

I have no idea if the police allow this, but in my office job i would have asked permission and made the time up elsewhere.

Hmm, I would like to trust any group of reasonably intelligent employees to handle this sort of thing sensibly.

We'll see if any police know, though having the information is going to result in judgement I think.

Let's hope they weren't parked on a double yellow or similar...seems standard practice near me when the Police stop at takeaways etc.

Maybe it's just the cynic in me but I get the impression you want people to say that the Policeman was skiving, there's no way he could be legitimately watching his son play football whilst in uniform, he should be somewhere else cracking crime, and this is why the country is going to hell in a hard cart.

Who knows and who really cares? Worst case scenario it might have made some of the nobhead dads behave like adults

Who gives a st, he might have had some down time and covers the patch his kid plays footy at, I'm sure if a job came in he'd have been off to deal with it.

Or he could have asked his Sgt if he could take a couple of hours and make them up later to see his kid plays, shift patterns can ruin family time so it may be the only way he gets to watch his lad play.

It's not the norm but it's not unheard of.
