What are "mitigating circumstances"
Discussion
Its a fair cop guv! Just received my 4th Notice of Intended Prosecution for speeding from Northants Police in 2 years,(after 25 years clean license including 12 years on bikes!)
My first assumption is that I'm going to lose my license - but should I make an effeort to plead mitigating circumstances?
I wont lose my job - its a company car but more of a perk. Customer visits will be difficult but not inconvenient. I can cycle/bus to my local office. They wont be impressed but hopefully wont sack me.
All of my points have been accumulated in Northants where I have to drive to fetch my kids to stay with me every 2-3 weeks. I live in Warwick, they in Peterborough. I'll have to get a train and our weekends together will be constrained somewhat - they are 11-18. Inconvenient for me, a bit harsh on them.
My new partner has two kids as well. She's in her second year of a degree course and doing really well (currently a single mum on benefits), 2-3 days a week I take her kids to school (one has special needs) so she can catch a 7:15 train to Brum from Warwick.
So should I bother to get a solicitor?
Yes, its my fault, I'm a fool for speeding but if I lose my license I'm not the only one to get punished. Any advice would be much appreciated but no lectures please :-(
