I know all these in Somerset were turned off and never turned back on again due to the cost. A few have stayed in place but aren’t operational. The smaller digital versions on the longer poles do work though. I can’t imagine any other force still operating the older gatso’s that need the film manually changing and processing. You’d know if they flashed.

I thought that was common knowledge, but the d
head I was stuck in a queue behind yesterday on the A370 insisted on slowing to 20mph (in a 40 limit) every time we passed one. Red9zero said:

People use to do that at the ones that were sited opposite each other up by Stonehenge in the NSL. One second you were quite happily doing sixty and then the next the car in front was panic braking down to 30mph for the cameras.head I was stuck in a queue behind yesterday on the A370 insisted on slowing to 20mph (in a 40 limit) every time we passed one. 
New vs old. The old ones in Somerset show as being live on some 3rd party camera sites. If you go to Avon and Somerset police site they are not included. The old ones weren’t very efficient, needing film changing regularly and the processing costs of the info was expensive. At the time all the money was going back to central government and it was costing the police a large amount of their funding to run them with no returns hence they were turned off( anybody who says they were put there for safety and not raising revenue, this proves otherwise) I would think this would be the same for other police areas and the old gatsos will be approaching 20 years old now.

Depends where you are, Cowick Lane Exeter is dead, but Cowley Bridge Rd Exeter looks maintained. The one past the Esso garage as you head into Exmouth from Exeter still has the burn marks so seems to be dead also.So are we saying camera appearance has little meaning in Devon?
I thought the old style gatso had all been upgraded to digital? I recall a news article where a chap beat the s**t out of one thinking it would destroy evidence of him speeding, not knowing it was all stored on a hard drive buried in the ground nearby and it even took a picture of his face as it was gong up in flames..
