Hi

In Dorset I've noticed recently Motorcycle cops lurking at the side of the road with something the size of the old box brownie cameras held at waist height pointing at the oncoming traffic.

Does anyone know what they are, how they work, and what the operating procedures are? A friend of mine has just passed one above the speed limit and is a bit concerned.

It seems they are allowed to have them just pointing at you unlike the old hand held radar guns where they have to specifically target you and not just point them indiscriminately. So, it would seem they are more like what is in the Truvelo vans.

One of the new breed of mini laser guns, probably linked to a video unit, assuming its one of the new mobile £amera units as opposed to a trafpol.

Thanks guys

The one I saw was a Motorcycle Traffic Cop and sounds the same that my friend passed.

The one I saw had his bike hidden and was half obscured himself in the corner of two walls but couldn't see the box attached to anything and nowhere for it to be hidden.

If it was a box of doughnuts it looked like he was trying to protect the 'family jewels' defensive wall style

We were thinking it was probably some VASCAR type video with the speed stamped on detected by some form of radar also in the box. Just wondered if anyone knew exactly what it was. Dorset have been trying out some new stuff recently. They had the radar gun that can clock you at over a mile away a couple of months ago.
