Just about due renewal with Admiral.

I have previously been covered by them like-for-like when travelling in the EU, so fully comp as below.

Looking at the new policy documents, this section has been changed to suggest that I will only covered third party when travelling in the EU.

Has anybody else noticed this? And is it possible to get fully comp EU cover with Admiral?

I read that as minimum cover 365 days, and cover as per your certificate for up to 90 days.

ETA it would appear that it is actually an improvement in cover. Unusual these days!

Yeah i read that somewhat the same, they will provide the minimum level of cover required in any of the listed countries + whatever level of cover you have in the UK is matched for 90 days

It’s reworded but providing you have TPF&T or above that level of cover persists according to the new clause. Kudos for reading the T&Cs closely enough to notice but doesn’t look like any difference in cover.

ETA: presumably this reword will allow if any of the countries already or ever legally require a higher level of cover to third party. E.g. if you buy TP only but France start requiring you to have fire cover for some reason the policy would meet that legal requirement.

So to conclude if you your insurance is fully comp you have fully comp EU cover for up to 90 days. smile

It does mentioned TPF&T having the same cover, but then mentions Admiral, Gold & Platinum. Is this referring to just gold and platinum? I believe mine is the regular fully comp insurance, I don't have any upgrades.

It would seem bizarre for TPF&T to have the same level of cover, but then comprehensive having even less cover.

I believe that if you run a comparison these days you end up with tiers like Admiral, Gold and Platinum with various extras in each from Admiral.

Much like Hastings and others are doing with things like Hastings Essentials etc.

From memory the admiral tier is basically standard fully comprehensive so you may find that is what you have (basically a rebrand of your previous comprehensive policy). I agree it’s not the clearest clause especially if changing following renewal.

If it’s of particular importance might be worth a quick call to them for peace of mind but as you say if TPF&T has it and other comprehensive tiers have it and the clause doesn’t clearly state otherwise I would be 99.9% satisfied that you are fine. smile

Literally just taken out a new policy with Admiral. I think the Gold and Platinum tiers are just adding in legal cover and replacement car cover. The car cover is otherwise the same as the others.

On page 20 of this booklet https://www.admiral.com/policyDocs/AD-003-033-Your... ( the latest dated policy booklet on their website) there is a table showing only third party only not having fully comprehensive in Europe and a more comprehensive clause without the awkward wording but with the tiers still (this time 4 tiers plus TPFT and TP).

Higher in the document on page 2 it explains what they are but in short any named tier is Fully Comp so will be the same in the EU.
So as long as the documentation you have for renewal etc has you fully comp you should be ok smile

Thanks that's useful. I take it that regular fully comp policies are just called 'Admiral' level of cover and thus TP and vehicle damage are covered.

Yeah, that’s what I took from the policy booklet with page 2 (and combined with the EU cover page for Europe). The lower than fully comprehensive cover seems to still be just called TPFT and TP.
