How common are height restrictions which affect vans?

Hired a Luton van based on a Renault Master; I’ve driven “normal” vans loads but this is a big boy and unhelpfully it has no height posted anywhere so far as I can see which in previous experience of large hire vans is normally on a sticker somewhere. Anyway my question is does this actually matter much? My previous experience has been checking height restrictions fastidiously and they’ve always been fine but now I cannot may I be blaze about it or are there lots of places on the road which can snag a tall van?

If so I will either have to be extra cautious or measure the thing

Measure it and put your own sticker in, surely there are lots of car parks with height restrictions you'd like to be 100% sure you will fit in before finding out the hard way?

Depends who built it but typically 3m

We had a 3.1m motorhome and only rarely had issues. Although a friend of mine did take the top off a hi-top Transit in one on the old Heathrow tunnels.

Take care as the signed height can be a little out, if at all in doubt approach slowly and stop before the bridge to check clearance.

...and under railway bridges as already shown. This one below is local to me and someone drives into the massive protective metal barrier about once every 6 weeks.....despite signs and yellow/black paint.

Signs on every approach road, but the one on the bridge itself gets knocked off regularly.

If you approach that knowing what you are driving and carry on regardless because there's no sign, then there really is no hope

While working at Ponds Forge in Sheffield I drove a luton van into the loading bay and unloaded it, I could not then get the van out as the unweighted suspension was now forcing the luton body into the roof...

I think any replacement signs have to be in both imperial and metric, but there's no requirement to replace the old imperial only signs, of which there are plenty still about.

On the whole you will end up avoiding multi story and underground car parks and not much else.

Whenever I've hired a tall van the height sticker has been in metric and imperial, but YMMV.
