My wife is getting a business off the ground and we've bought a 70's aircooled VW pickup to use to sell goods at fairs/events etc (as I have one already so can keep one on the road) as it suits the retro vibe etc.
I'm struggling with insurance to cover this and I don't understand what is actually required to legally do this.
The pickup will have signwriting advertising the biz and we will be carrying goods, the goods are perishable so not high value like tools etc.
We will not be going to a single point of business as it's pop up locations & events.

I've read that I need "carriage of own goods" and "hire and reward" insurance as we will be carrying goods that are being sold to people as well as probably delivering orders in the future.
If anyone can help with the right brokers to approach and what I actually need? I have one quote so far which isn't bad but it is 4 times what I pay for my other VW bus because of the business use case so I want to be sure I'm paying for what I need.

TIA

Forget the fact it's a classic effectively your trying to insure a commercial vehicle for business use & that's the type of insurance you need Van insurance is more expensive than car insurance

Just take out van insurance (with "Business" ticked). The hire & reward thing is more about tacho's as far as I'm aware. You really dont' want to go down that route...

Fairly sure I used Money supermarket to find me van insurance (business use). It's not expensive. I pay around £170 for a transit.

You don't need H&R to deliver your own products that you've sold. H&R is for carrying other people's goods for money, like a courier.

Are you selling 'from the van' ie is it your 'shop' or is it juts a means to get your goods to the location.

If the former you need:

https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/mobile-shop-insurance...

If the latter just need a van policy with business use as has been stated.

Being a classic won't help as most classic policies are personal use only.

Thanks all, problem is modern compare sites can't recognise the van due to it's age I assume which isn't helping with quotes.
We are selling from the van so thank for the AF link dibblecorse, that could be the ticket!

I get my truck insurance from Direct Line (not on comparison sites). It's usually a bit of a wait, but I find picking up the phone to them is good as you can explain exactly what you need.

Picking up the phone is probably the best bet, at least you can explain what you have and what you want. My (modern) van is insured with Adrian flux and my old Disco is with Lancaster insurance. I would give Lancaster a call 1st as they have a great team.

I would not bother with the classic car insurers this is simply a commercial enterprise and the wrong insurance could potentially cause you a lot of problems .

I use Coversure for my working vehicles and commercial insurance
