A relation has brought his car in from abroad and needs to get it registered in the UK
Last week they used an agency to do all the paperwork and this week when waiting for it to come through, they found that the car had been taxed and SORNed on the same day and the V5 has been sent to an address down in London.
Basically, the car has been registered to a different keeper.
Now, they are worried that the people could get a key made with all the details they now possess and come and take the car and it would be very difficult to resolve.
I think it seems more likely they have tried to run a complex ringing scam and have a stolen car to put the registration onto it so they can sell it.
What do we think ? anyone had anything similar ?

Now this is difficult to answer
I don't know why it is like this, but apparently its registered at an address in London that's an Indian takeaway (but not sure how he could find this out) and has been SORNed
Its been reported to the Police so maybe this information has come about from the investigation.
But its confusing so thats why I asked if anyone has heard of anything like it ?

All I can think of is it's maybe a mistake by the agent?
Dealer bringing in cars for retail usually register them, and then sorn them, to get the cost of the tax back, so that's not unusual in that respect.
If the agent isn't answering the phone then I'd be very worried.

The address - could be offices in the same building. If you look at Companies House there's a lot of directors with addresses above shops etc in London.
Where I lived in London many young chaps from the oil states brought their cars over for the summer season... They are all Hooray Henry types so unlikely to want to get involved in paperwork, so perhaps this is some standard practice by agents who ship cars in from that region to avoid annoying their clients with details such as "who is the actual keeper of the vehicle"? Is it possible that, coming from Qatar, there has been a misunderstanding?
