Mileage clocking
Discussion
Hello all,
Could anyone help me with a legitimate reason as to why the mileage on my 4x4 appears to have been adjusted?

It seems odd if someone was going to go through the effort of "clocking" the vehicle that they would not take into consideration the mileage the year before. So lets say they put 30k miles on the car between August 2020 and March 21, wouldn't you, if you were that way inclined, adjust the mileage to above the August figure as not to make it obvious?
Anyway, I've only owned the car since December 21 and it wasn't something I spotted.

There's just as much chance as this being a simple typo error on behalf of the tester, than of the car being 'clocked'.
If the car seems all ok, and the rest of the test history too, then don't worry about it.
Mistakes like this happen quite frequently.
When my car had a service, the paperwork came back with the wrong mileage on it, think he put 88k instead of 83k miles.

I bought it with 80,000 and its now on 87,000.
I'll go through the paperwork that came with the car to see if any manual receipts etc show the picture.
Mileages:
16th Feb 2016 - 41,513
24th feb 2017 - 51,867
15th feb 218 - 59,697
30 august 2018 - 62,744
16 august 2019 - 68,334
27 august 2020 - 77,380
26 march 21 - 76,269
11 october 21 - 80,146

I would suspect the 76k mileage should have been 79k and caused by finger trouble at the MOT garage.
I had similar on the last MOT on one of my cars, only spotted because I happened to look at the online MOT checker to see if it had passed (it had) and noticed the mileage was wrong. Pointed out the error to the garage and they amended it.

I didn't think it was possible to have this amended. I'll locate the garage and contact them.I had similar on the last MOT on one of my cars, only spotted because I happened to look at the online MOT checker to see if it had passed (it had) and noticed the mileage was wrong. Was it the same owner as previous years or did it change hands and do 30k miles taking it over £100k so new owner adjusted it back without checking properly..100k mileage kills a cars value
Seems unlikely it's done 30k in 6 months. Although I posted the same in my first post. OutInTheShed said:
The ECU etc may store all this internally?
Might be interesting to set a code reader on it?
The unlikely possibility is that major meddling has gone on, failed ECU replaced or something?
I've got a foxwell. I'll plug it in and see what it says. Might be interesting to set a code reader on it?

I'm not specifically bothered about it. I just thought it was odd.
