Car Door Ding - Retribution!
Discussion
Some scumbag has opened their car door onto my car and left me with a ding. I know we all suffer from this time to time, so I've started taking pictures of the cars parked next to me with my camera phone.
Now that I've got this bar stewards number, I wonder how I set about finding the registered keeper. Am I going to have to go through the police to find this out?
I know it seems petty to chase this, but I feel this is disrespectful at worst and vandalism at best. Unless people start chasing these tossers, they'll just keep flinging their car doors open without caring about the damage they are causing!
I'm prepared to spend money and time on catching this c:censored:t, just to spoil their day as much as they have spoiled mine! :shoot:
It would be nice if I could use the DVLA or a solicitor though, as I live in London and don't want to have to bother them with small crimes, given their current workload...

Not the same shops by any chance on a regular basis?
Me, i'd be back there same time next week, and find a spot of instant retribution, simple as that,
(I have done)
Nothing smarts more than a direct result of your actions, and I'm yet to see, the balance restored by the (law).
I understood from people on here, that parking your property away from the mums&kids bit might save you this concern, but then someone always parks alongside, anyway

Wow, I didn't realise it was that easy! I'll give this a go, and let you know how I get on.
The instant revenge thing seems tempting, but a lot of these people don't seem to care at all about the sheds they are driving. They would probably be too dumb to work out why they had been targeted.
I can see the appeal of it though!
A friend of mine got so fed up of having his classic car dented by these f
kwits that he started parking diagonally across two spaces. I'm not sure that's really the best solution however...
Perhaps a motion sensor, linked up to those under car flame throwers like they have in South Africa would be a good idea

Just do not see the point in people chasing up damage that is not visible without close scrutiny.
If you don't want your car damaged then leave it at home.
Well ledfoot, the ding is not the kind of damage that would polish out. If it was, I wouldn't be that bothered about it. I'd be polishing it out right now instead of using my time to chase it up.
Why should I leave my car at home just because others are too selfish or lazy to have consideration for others?

Ledfoot has a point...
I'd agree with ledfoot in the case of stuff that polishes out.

1) Change the way the entire of the UK thinks acts and behaves overnight (tricky...)
2) Leave your car at home and / or
3) Buy a total shed for doing shopping / small trips out etc. Keeps mileage off your P&J and if someone dings it, ding them back![]()
I have a Mondeo TDCi '03 plate...
People are arseholes. If you cant change everyone, change yourself so you dont suffer the consequences.
Sorry to hear about your motor and crunch problems. I don't think it matters whether it's a Ford or a Ferrari, although a Ford might attract a bit less deliberate "attention", unless it's a GT40!
As for the suggested solutions, sad but true for most of them gh0st. We have to change ourselves to adopt to the environment, to some degree.
Leaving the car at home I can't agree with though. Just because arseholes exist none of us should aspire to a decent car?
You're dead right that I can't change all the people in the UK. I just plan on changing one of them.
Having some pride in your own stuff, should'nt go against us.
i'll bet most of us drive in a defensive way, spending a bit more time on thinking for others and what might happen. I
I'm not altering my parking habits any further to accomodate someone elses clumsiness, but catching them in the act, or on a later occasion, and making my feelings felt seems OK to me

I always consider that my car is worth more than any others in a car park, and that includes any Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin etc.
I always make a point of parking away from other vehicles where possible.
It just annoys me when I get accused of something I know nothing about.

I can see how a wrongful accusation for miniscule damage would be very upsetting, you've got my sympathy on that one.
The camera phone trick I've not had confidence in before, as you can't be sure that another car was not responsible, especially if you've been away from the car for a long time.
I saw this one drive off though, and I'd only been gone 5 minutes...
Mines an old car, but having only recently had a
re-spray, I'm sensitive to women shoppers/school hols etc, and tend to use the proximity alarm, when parking it at the shops.
when someone pulls in alongside, it 'beeps', and when getting in neighbouring car it does the same, and it seems, to have worked oddly enough so far.
famous last, eh!

A while ago I was sitting in my car in a local car park. Opposite me, an idiot in a pick up swung into a parking space without care and hit the wing of the car next to him. He then looked furtively around before moving to another space further away......
When he'd gone, I left a note under his wiper stating "I witnessed your collision with Ford Fiesta Reg: *** *** * at 1136 on (date) and will be prepared to make a statement to the police if requested to do so".
But I also left another note (pushed through the open window of the Fiesta) stating "The damage to your offside wing was caused by Toyota pick up Reg No. *** *** * at 1136 on (date); he then moved to another space assuming that no-one had seen the collision".
Always wondered about the outcome!
A woman in a Chelsea Tractor clipped my rear bumper when pulling out; however, she left a note of apology plus a contact no. under my wiper blade. So there are some honest folk around. Mind you, I think that the repair bill of £300+ from the approved Mercedes Benz repair specialist must have made her insurer's eyes water!

I take every precaution with my cars. I don't park the Porsche where I reckon there might be trouble. I have a shed for the Sainsbury's run etc etc
If some twit dings my Porsche after I've taken all possible precautions then I *will* chase them up and pursue recompense.
Car park dings may be a fact of life. So is taking responsibility for your actions.

Spot on.
I had a very short argument with one woman who dinged my door after I said I could prove it was her - her argument lasted all of 30 seconds until I pointed out that the girlfriend who'd witnessed it was in the passenger seat all the time when she'd returned and 'misguided' her trolley my door. She tried to claim my girlfried was not in the car and had probably been in the shop with me, but with a broken ankle she wasn't going anywhere.
Finally agreed to get the repair done at a 'place she knew' as she knew she wouldn't be ripped off by my own choice of bodyshop (must have been a regular occurence) - never got refunded though as her photography business was on fire the day I went to collect a £125 cheque for the repairs - no, it wasn't me!
