To my surprise I have a £100 parking ticket for spending more than 30 mins at the Shell on East Hill, Wandsworth.
I wrote to them to say that this is surprising, I used the facilities Including car cleaning and the shop.
They responded to me to say that they effectively don’t care and I have no further right of appeal to them - I should have seen the signs.
Tbh when driving in, your focus is on the road junction and then space in the station - not looking for signs telling you that something looking a bit like services cannot be used for more than 30 mins (I think in total I was there around an hour an 10).
Any experience of this and thoughts on what to do next?

Sandwich board advising other customers that the owners of this service station are tts

Book a couple of weeks off work and spend every available minute stood outside?

And that's really all the OP can do. There would have been adequate signage at the site. He's been caught. That's it.

Just out of interest, were you actually at the petrol station for an hour and 10 mins?

Was it the parking company or the petrol satiation that you wrote to?
If you wrote to the parking company then it may be worth speaking to the management of the petrol station, assuming you were there as a customer using the facilities for that length of time.

Were you “ parked” at a pump whilst shopping etc?
One of my pet hates.
If blocking a pump then different to using a parking space.

What a lovely country we live in where this type of “invoice” is allowed.

That’s a long time to be at a petrol station.

I guess they are thinking (as do many of us to be fair) there can be no way at all to need 70 minutes at a petrol station, even for using the car clean and shopping.

If you can break it all down and give an explanation of the time, it might help. Was it a typical small petrol station, a wash area and little shop - or part of some shopping park?

I fear whatever you offer, they will say matters not, you should have got outta there once you were closing in on 30 mins whatever the case.

Indeed, somewhat perplexed at how anyone can spend that amount of time at a petrol station.

Some are really fancy, can sit down and eat, do a decent food shop etc. Mind you their parking restrictions generally reflect this. Can’t imagine they would have 30mins restriction for a mini services type scenario.

Tell them to FO.

Pretty much nothing they can do.

Last week I visited my local garage. Filled the car, washed it, and bought a bottle of gas. All done in 15 minutes.

An hour and 10 minutes! What were you doing?

It's an invoice for breach of contract. If you were continuously using the services of the station, then arguably the 30 minute time limit is an unfair and therefore unenforceable contract term. The visibility of signage is another separate argument that no contract was created in the first place.

Twaddle.

I got one of these, not only did it go all the way to court but I won and they had to pay my expenses.

Straight to pepipoo OP.

I would write to the management of both the parking company and the garage and complain,( go straight to the top man /woman) Asking what exactly the £100 is for and ask for them to explain how they came to that figure and suggest it should be more like £20 and offer to pay that as full and final settlement and you would be interested to see what the local newspaper would make of this .
It may do no good but for 20 mins to write a couple of e mails worth a try.

Best if he emails from home , rather than in his car at the petrol station though….
