Some time ago I asked our local SNT what action they took to stop tailgating to force drivers who wanted to drive at local 20 limits. None was the reply from a SNT Sergeant. But you can always fit a dashcam and send in the videos. Since then ,I've fitted a rear dash cam and noticed a lot more respect for my rear safety. But for those of poor vision, I've thought of adding lights to the rear camera. What coulours are permitted by law.
I suspect if you send in footage of drivers tailgating you, absolutely sod all will happen, unless it is an extreme event. Wouldn't waste your time, nor that of the police. If you're regularly getting caught up in extreme tailgating incidents however, I would suggest that you review your manner of driving as it's not really an issue that I've experienced.
Trying to wire in a red light to go with your dash cam is also likely to be a pointless endeavour but if it makes you happy, crack on.

C&U regs = red. Blue and flashing amber are also permitted, but I'm assuming your car is not an emergency vehicle or abnormal load.
If you can include "dashcam warrior" as an "abnormal load" then the amber light would work !I always think its fairly abnormal to want to send dash cam videos to the police to try and get people prosecuted.......

Can only assume you don't drive in 20mph limits very often - I'd say I get tailgated pretty frequently in 20mph limits. Obviously if your manner of driving is to ignore the 20mph limits, your experience will be different! But you can't blame someone for obeying a speed limit especially in a built-up area. OP, have you thought about wearing a high-viz with "POLITE" on the back, and shouting "you're getting a visit!!!" to anyone who drives too close?
(Seriously OP, I've had dashcams on all my cars for over a decade, but even I think "DCW" when I see people with CCTV stickers and the like.)

Safe braking distance at 20 is pretty short…..
About 40ft - or the length of a large artic lorry.I doubt anyone leaves this distance from the car in front, hence why there is more tailgating, more road rage and more minor accidents.
But of course these minor accidents don't affect the KSI figures so everyone's happy!
Yes, there are times when even 20 could be too fast, but a blanket 20mph limit is ludicrous and causes more accidents.
But unfortunately every one is forced to drive like this to avoid collecting points.

Maybe knock-up a small projector so that it projects a safe distance image behind the car, and anyone who strays too close get the full effect in their face?

Nice to see someone agrees. This particular road has a few problems. In my case, I've checked my speedo with both a GPS dashcam and Sat nav on my phone and know my speedo is accurate. 1)- Political reduction of the limit from the 80 percantile to 20 , because of the kidie /WRI brigade ,as cars are apparently "speeding) on sections.
2) refusal of certain drivers to accept that the "hazard density" is high, with cars parked on footpaths and a parking bay being provided by highways on the other side ,meaning that road width is reduced.
3) the belief by a certain range of drivers that aggressive tail gaiting will "persuade " the driver in front ,who is obeying the 20 limit to speed up. Got a newish car,? get rear ended and theres two choices. Insurance, and then next year, your premium will jump. Got an older car and there's a chance of car being written off and a fight to get market value back.
4) road construction. like a lot of roads with tables/speed humps and other speed devices, both sides of the humps and bumps suffer from surface problems, namely depressions in front and after the humps and bumps.
I know that sending a tape into "operation snap" will not likely produce any police checks on tail gaiting. I've also noticed that the presence of a camera in the rear window has reduced the amount of tailgaiting ,for those observant enough to spot the camera.
All Im asking is for a non PH idea on an attention seeking light on the camera for those whose observation skills lack vision.
