I have done this a couple of times in my life, wrong lane, traffic clear so I move over to the correct lane, if the lights were green for direction of travel then surely your ignoring a red light as it is a filter light?

Firstly it was not clear, secondly because so many people felt it was OK to just cut in, bollards are down the middle of the road so people can't do it. I used to travel that bit of road frequently and lost count of the number of bumps at that set of traffic lights (until they installed the bollards) The daft thing is you can turn right follow the road round and still often be ahead of those in the straight-ahead lane.

Red means stop. That’s it. There’s no exception for if you’re in the wrong lane, if you’ve changed your mind, if it’s been red for longer than you think it should’ve been, etc.
