I work in loss adjusting on large commercial building claims, and 
Travellers create a lot of work for me. Their usual tactic was rock up to a commercial premises on a Friday afternoon, set up camp, and break into the building. Police turn up, deny any criminal activity has taken place, and the owner / managing agent has to go to court to get them evicted, which gives them the entire weekend to steal all the copper.
We have just received a new loss, and the preliminary report says the police could not move them on as they were too intoxicated to drive their vehicles. I wonder if this is going to be their new tactic?

That’s good thinking on their behalf, thinking outside of the box
The new powers should be able to move them if they are trespassing, you’d hope that would be a seize the vehicle job, tricky one of its on private land

The winner winners here are the travellers and the legal system. Constant action going to Court to get injunctions and enforcement:
Travellers pitch up, council applies to Court, Council gets injunction, travellers move to next playing field/school, Council applies to Court, Council gets injunction, travellers move to village green, Council goes to Court....
If you follow the money, no wonder there are no effective laws.

Bang on with what happened to us. Bought a new industrial unit, a week before we were due to move in and conversion just about complete they pitch up, take over the car park, break into the building, steal the cabling, pipework and trades equipment, cops called and of course they deny everything. They then had the brass neck to offer to leave if we pay £10k cash. We contacted the Travelers Liaison Officer at the Council who was pretty upset with the words used to describe them, that was until I took him inside to let him see that rather than use the toilets in the building they had broken into, they had s Travellers create a lot of work for me. t all over the floors, at which point he got the head hauncho traveler over and told him to bolt, and that he'd not get any support from him in the future. So left to us to secure the building, reinstate the electrics and plumbing, have industrial cleaners sort out the internal mess, have grab wagons in to clear the car park of all the tree cuttings and rubble, all of which cost in excess of £10k. But of course its them that are persecuted, and there are only a small number of them that give the rest a bad name (surprising given the percentage of the prison population that they make up).The ones that purchased the land near my house, without planning and rocked up and flattened the place over Easter 2021, had their Stop Notice Appeal rejected and are supposed to vacate the land by the 28th August.
Only problem is, today we found out that their Change of Use planning application that was rejected back in Feb, has been granted an Appeal to be heard on the 3rd November 2022, how does that work then ?

Of course moving them doesn’t solve the problem, it just solves the current issue and starts another elsewhere.
A common gang is linked to a family in Lancashire that scope out and plan the jobs (they stay in houses) they and permanent travellers carry out the industrial scrap removal as described, often watching commercial listings for buildings coming to let and moving in just as the previous tenants or indeed builders vacate.
Local Police don’t have the resources to move them on and I’ve no idea what organised crime divisions and NCA are doing about it as the main perpetrators are well known.
Feel sorry for the low paid private security dog handlers that keep getting chased off the sites by these people. Always happens out of hours when there are 2 PC’s covering 50 square miles.

A big operation with ' head quarters ' at Warrington involves a recce of industrial estates all over the UK. The minions do the work and a percentage is paid back.
A boxing gym is involved in part and also actually involves their 'company' providing security for industrial sites around the area, yes...security.
A friend of mine living near Lancaster knows them well, no one in or around that area would mess with them.

Did that years ago with a commercial property we bought , hired some of those interlinked concrete blocks you see at roadworks for about three months cost us about £1500 iirc , worth every penny.It’s a visual deterrent as well , the d e past and pick on another property to pull up on.
