I know, I was a bit annoyed but I should know better really. Road was very quiet, sunny, dry, mid morning etc.
Black bmw on the inside lane doing the speed limit did sort of twig but then thought nah, not on the toll surely…

Sadly not. Have had some nice clear runs on there myself in the past.
I was on my way to Goodwood from Chorley and was the first part of the journey where I thought I might be able to make a bit of progress after all the ‘smart’ motorway and 60mph average speed camera zones.
Nevermind eh.

Until they were out of view, then the same people would revert back to type, just like how people approach bright yellow GATSOs.Marked cars are only a moderating influence in their immediate vicinity.
When heading South I always toy with saving a few quid and avoiding the Toll.
But after countless miles of 50 average, bad driving and tons and tons of HGVs blocking lanes 1 and 2, I opt for the Toll.
It's a Zen moment when all the scum veer away and you virtually have a motorway to yourself.
The greenery is looked after, the surface is good and all is well with the world.
30 odd miles later the scum return and it's the scrum off circumventing Brum to get to the M40 which always strikes me as posh.
Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, The Chilterns ahhhh.

Glorious, isn't it. It's just not worth speeding down there nowadays though, even if wanting to give it a squirt with maximum visibility. Cruise control on 75, just enjoy the peaceful road for a brief moment.But after countless miles of 50 average, bad driving and tons and tons of HGVs blocking lanes 1 and 2, I opt for the Toll.

If not taking the toll road, that stretch of raised M6 past Fort Dunlop is a lawless toilet. One wonders if the drivers have ever passed a driving test (in this country, anyway). Usually white BMW 5 series, Audi S3s, Mercedes E-Class or Toyota Prius taxis.
