V5 not forthcoming
Discussion
More looking for thoughts on why than trying to start a legal issue.
Purchased a used car from a main agent back in May, took delivery on 21st of May, dealer taxed for us and we paid on our card at collection. We were about to move so enquired how long before a log book would arrive. Sales guy said if he did it today (Sunday from memory) it would arrive by Wednesday/Thursday so we did it to old address. We have a redirect service on anyway so no issue really if it was late. Got busy with moving and didn't think anything of it until 2nd July and realised no log book. Called sales guy and asked, explaining we'd now moved so if details had been missed being inputted could he put new address into system it comes here.
Obviously now nearly another month has passed and still no V5. Have checked dvla website several times and last v5 was issued in Feb this year. We have also called DVLA (before we called dealer on 2nd July) and they say it's still down as in trade.
It's not a demo or anything that they would need to keep in their name, just a regular used car.
Going to call again Monday but just curious why I'm not getting it, seems simple enough job?

I had a similar problem because I was living in rented when I purchased.
I sent a V62 Application for a vehicle registration certificate and explained on the form that I had moved house. It has to be done by post and I sent a cheque for £25.00. It only took a couple of weeks even during the Covid lockdown.

Probably down as in trade as they haven't got round to processing it yet. Very likely the dealer did do the change over but down to dvla. Dvla can take sometimes just a few days up to a few weeks..
8 weeks seems pretty long though and we've changed all the address on other cars within a few days....maybe nothing and Monday it'll sort 🙂 Have you asked the dealer whether they declared the change online or via post, or whether they've even bothered to do the change at all?
At the moment, based on the info you've posted about the DVLA still having it showing as in trade, it sounds rather plausible that whoever is responsible for the admin at the dealer hasn't actually done it. I only suggest this as there was a thread on here within the last few months where someone had posted a similar query to yours and after getting annoyed and chasing the place they'd bought the car from, it turned out the V5 was still sitting in a pile of paperwork that hadn't been dealt with by whoever does their admin and as a result the change was sorted online the same day.
If it was done via post then yes it's entirely possible it either got lost or is stuck in the remaining DVLA backlog but my guess from personal experience, and from other threads on here involving people that work in the trade, is that most of them favour using the online system which means if they had done it that way the car would no longer show in trade and a new V5 would have been issued fairly quickly, as the current online turn around time seems to be within about 7-10 days based on recent threads on here.

What he said above.
I bought a car from BCA recently. It was a car for myself personally so I did an online transfer from trade using my traders details into my own details. The new V5 came within three working days.
Sounds like the dealer hasn’t executed the transfer. Not a problem if they still have the V5 and can do it now for you?
Do you have the new keeper slip?
