Divorce question

Is divorce settlement means tested? One party earns £100k the other £15k. There is approx £600k in the pot from sale of the house.
One child who lives with the mother full time (£100k earner).

I know it's a how long is a piece of string question but are there guidelines?

Is there a reason behind you earning £15k and her £100k like raising children, supporting her at home, giving up your earning potential to support her ambitions?

This is for a friend. He is self employed and had a couple of hard years. She works in lov government but has a nanny to look after the child .

If the child stays with her she will get most of the 600k as I understand it, 400k.

I assume he earns 100k and she 15k so he will end up with maintenance as said.

It’s going to be a very expensive exercise if that’s the case, on the plus side did they can agree things they can do a cheap online divorce 750, but with those kind of figures they may well waste a lot of cash on solicitors

Yes to clear up he earns £15k. Wife 100k. She has full time custody of the Child.

Do you not want shared care of the child with access?

Have you been to court already as you may still have PR but the mother has residency? Custody isn’t a term used in the uk for children's living arrangements.

From what I understand the child is with the mother full time and over the past few months the mother has brainwashed the child into not seeing her father. The child is 11 and is now adamant that he doesn't want to see his dad. My friend is unsure why she has done this and is saying she is just going along with what the child wants but probably most likely it is for money reasons to get her hands on a large slice of the pot.

Why parents weaponise the children in divorces is one of the great questions. Children have highly developed bullst detectors and are highly resilient. Your friend needs to play this with a straight bat and focus on the long term. It hurts hugely right now but his children will seek him out when they are older and the truth will out.
