If a product had a visual fault with the finish, a third party inspection was done which was organised by the manufacturer and the report came back as inconclusive and will not uphold a complaint, does that mean they have admitted there is an issue or not?

No it means they can't conclude that there is an issue, hence "inconclusive" (not able to conclude) being the outcome.

It also means that that can't confirm that there is no fault, so the complaint is still valid, surely?

Thanks.

Thing is, it seems to be a bit of a grey area as the actual wording is..

"The inspection was carried out and their report was inconclusive and have requested further investigation."

Sounds to me that they are seeking a second opinion so hold tight...

Now we know the full reply, then that changes things.

Ask the right question, get the right answer.

As above they are not committing one way or the other, but pending further checks/opinions, then they may be able to.

Something doesn't add up here - There is either a visual fault with the finish, or there isn't.

The manufacturer sets the standard for the finish, and it either meets that standard , or it doesn't.

I'm suspecting that the "inconclusive" part of the report, isn't if there is a finish issue or not, but what could have caused the finish issue.

I carry out warranty investigations for a living (and have done for over 20 years), and whilst there has to be a reason for things not being right, sometimes all you can do is confirm the fault that the fault exists, you cannot determine exactly why it has occurred.

When that happens, it's annoying, because as an investigator, you ideally want a conclusive result to every case, but sometimes you just have to live with the fact that you just cannot explain what went wrong, or who/what is responsible for it going wrong.

Thanks, it's the wording that is confusing as it seems to imply that it's case closed, but if it is further investigated and is found to be outside of tolerance, then they will investigate further.

So, who is responsible for investigating further? The supplier?

The supplier have already confirmed there is an issue and it was the manufacturer who then decided to arrange an independent inspection.

Could you start an “ask a warranty inspector anything” thread, that would be fascinating !

I don't know why you are struggling so much with this sentence, it seems perfectly clear to me, so lets break it down into the 3 parts.

"The inspection was carried out and their report was inconclusive and have requested further investigation."

1. The inspection has been carried out - This means that the inspection has been carried out.

2. Their report was inconclusive - They were not able to provide a conclusion.

3. And have requested further investigation - They have requested further investigation.

Unless you have missed something else in the details that you have not shown us then that means "THEY HAVE REQUESTED FURTHER INVESTIGATION" the key word being THEY.

So, unless the report goes on to say something like "you would need to have this inspected by ........." then that means THEY so sit & wait.
