Well Done Traffic Cops!
Discussion
Personally don't normally have a lot of love for traffic cops. My sister is one and she's horrible.
However I witnessed an event yesterday on the way to work that cheered me right up.
Four lane clockwise section of the M25 just before the A12, there's a Mercedes estate sitting in lane 4 doing 70mph with little to no traffic in the inside lanes*.
I'm behind a Police Traffic car in lane 2 which pulls out behind the Merc and sat there for quite a while. No response from the driver. PT pulls into L3 and accelerates level with Merc and looks in. No response. PT pulls behind Merc again and lights up the blues. No response again. Eventually Mr Merc wakes up and pulls over to the hard shoulder. Hopefully got a good telling off.

- IMO this outside lane hogging (especially on 2 lane roads) is a major cause of delays and frustration on our roads. Don't know whether it's caused by ignorance, arrogance, bad tuition or something else but it's a big issue. As are those who change into an outside lane when there's just enough room for a car, then apply the brakes

That’s good policing, shame there’s hardly any motorway patrols these days but that’s the sort of thing we need to see. Too often the focus of roads policing is dumbed down to speeding which is an issue through villages but there are other problems on the roads such as lane hogging which rarely gets dealt with.

Thanks for keeping out of the VIP lane. The "lane 1 is made of lava" people on the M25 allowed me to get home so much more quickly over such a period of time that I've effectively added days to my life.LightningBlue said:

When speeding and pressing on my concentration is high. These gormless mouth breathers who hover in the wrong lane for miles on end have zero clue whats going on around them.

One thought is that it is pure laziness. It takes too much effort to maneuver safely, so it's just easier to stick in the lane they're in.
Another is that it's the erroneous but common terminology of "slow lane" and "fast lane". They think they have to go slowly if they're in the slow lane.
It annoys the frick out of me, because it makes me feel like such a road captain as I move from left to right and back again to go around them, when all I'm doing is driving properly.

I'm donning my flame proof, parrot retardant, redbull can resistant suit as I type this, I get on the M27 for just a single junction going to and from work,a journey of just 3.2 miles, in the morning it's far more common to see knuckle dragging mouth breathers in the second lane, as I have to travel just one junction I simply sit in the 1st lane undertaking them.

I followed someone who did 5 miles in the RH lane of the A10 last night. When I say "followed" I was obvs in the LH lane and on cruise control which resulted in me catching up and dropping back as the perp didn't seem able to control their speed.
The best way to make slower drivers stay in the RH lane is to approach faster than them in the LH lane. The proper thing to do is indicate right and move into the RH lane in the vain hope that the other guy will also do the right thing.OutInTheShed said:

Unfortunately this would only work if lane hogger was actually aware that other cars are about

Interesting and I'm not defending the Merc driver at all but I wonder how the conversation went 'So hang on officer, you've stopped me for doing 70 mph on a motorway, in the outside lane? Surely no one should be overtaking me unless you are saying that speeding is allowed, are you saying that officer? Are you?'However I witnessed an event yesterday on the way to work that cheered me right up.

p.s. 'My sister is one and she's horrible' made me chuckle

Yes, but it was night and we were both doing 0.8 leptons so I just let him/her/they be.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
