Car park hit and run
Discussion
Keeping short as poss , our car was hit in a car park while shopping and the driver who did it left without leaving a note
When we got back to our car there was a note from a witness saying they took photos of the car that did it and to call them
We got the ref and pics
We also have video from our car showing the woman get out her car after hitting us - she was trying to park and left after the collision
She got out her car looked at damage she did and got back in and drove away
Our insurer is now saying that the other party is admitting responsibility and the upfront we had to pay to get repairs done will be reimbursed and we will not lose any no claims
Still this has caused us a lot of admin and our car will be in for repairs for a week
Has anyone been in a similar situation , are we entitled to any compensation / does the responsibility party have any penalty for deliberately trying to avoid liability

Your renewal insurance premium will go up though for the next 5 years.
Probably one of the most repeated factually incorrect statements made on PH.It might, it might not.
I had a non fault claim 4 years ago, at the next renewal my premium had gone down.
My wife had a fault claim, her insurance actually went down the following year.

I suppose the question is would it have gone down more without the claim? It might, it might not.

I know a few people who have had no fault claims and nearly always their renewal is more, so they assume it's because of the claim, but then so is mine without any claim, until I phone up or switch company.
Nobody really knows except the insurance companies.
On another note this sort of dishonest behaviour should result in more serious consequences.
There's nothing in the original post to suggest any dishonest behaviour.
If they are involved in an accident they should stop.........they did.
They should give the relevant details to the other party or anyone else reasonably requiring them..........The other party wasn't present to give them to.
They aren't required legally to leave a note on the vehicle, or to hang around indefinitely to wait for the other party.
What they did after leaving we don't know (from the original post).
They may, for all we know, have reported it as they hadn't seen the other party.

That's a good point. I guess I'm assuming quite a lot.If they are involved in an accident they should stop.........they did.

Yes. They certainly should have left a note.
However, who in this day and age Carries pen and paper with them?
I don’t even carry a wallet. Just my phone to pay with Apple Pay.
If I need to ‘write something by down’ I make a note in the notes app on my phone.
So playing devils advocate, perhaps they like most people did not have the means to write you a note?
Also, compo? For what? Just no.

I've been a witness to 2 seperate car park hit and runs.
First time I left a note and my contact number, yet heard nothing of it.
Second time I managed to just snatch a photo of the offending car as it drove off. The driver had even got out to inspect the damage beforehand. Hung about for a few mins and managed to speak to the poor couple whose car had been smashed up. A few days later they let me know the police got involved, and the insurance sorted it. Received a nice offer of a bottle of wine, but the RSPCA got a cash donation instead, hopefully made them feel like some right can come from wrong afterall.

Just to be clear here the lady was trying to park next to my car. She hit it , backed out, looked at damage and drove awayIf they are involved in an accident they should stop.........they did.

Do you really really think she reported it after deciding she didn’t even want to park there any more - there was plenty of space for her car.
