3 points for parking 10m from a junction

You're not parked far enough away from the junction. Highway code states 10 metres. It's harsh, but I don't think you can challenge it.

I’m not sure you have any grounds to challenge. It’s definitely within 10m of the junction and also making it potentially dangerous for drivers attempting to exit that junction.

So the HWC says 10M but it's not the law so it's a judgement with the HWC used as a guide?

So difficult to challenge I would have thought.

Agree with others, that's pretty inconsiderate parking. There is no way I could come out that junction to do a left turn without the risk of someone taking my nose off.

You might think it’s safe, but the person turning left out of that junction can’t see and would have to pull directly onto the opposite side of the road straight away.

Yep. More than inconsiderate, I say that parking is causing danger to other road users.

Well, although I do think it’s bad dangerous parking. I’d say you were extremely unlucky to be done. I see lots of parking like that all the time and see little evidence of it being addressed. Had you been warned before ?

Summary : Pretty bad parking. And unlucky to be singled out for it.

In busier places there would be a car parked across the corner aswell behind your van. Seen a lot worse elsewhere.

Thanks - yeah there are range rovers and other cars parked there all the time, it’s essentially an area that’s always full and there’s no parking restrictions

The whole area is like that, it’s a quiet residential street (not a through road).

I think I’ll accept the points and send the police weekly photos of cars blocking the junction in the hope that the jobsworth taking photos gets some points too.

I'd guess that the cars get a bit more leeway when they park there because you can actually see through the glass to check if it's clear. A van tends not to have much glass, so makes emerging completely opaque and more dangerous.

...although the letter of the law should mean the rule applies to everyone

Correct. I think if you had been more like 5 or 6 away you may not have had an issue, rather than fixating on the 10m too much. But it’s pretty clear that your van is blocking the view of the junction entirely. A car doesn’t necessarily (but may) cause a danger parked in a similar spot, often you can see through them. No chance with the van.
