Title says it all. Small accident last week hit a gate post car written off. Insurance all taken care of then wife recalls 3 years ago she had speeding ticket she for got about.

So what likely outcome

A) no payout I loose 15k car etc
B) some form of reduced payput
C) 1 point left she not driving or in the car no issue

Likely just increased premium x 3 years if with same insurer and handled in the right way by both sides.

Different if the points would have led them to reject the insurance policy

No idea about the question, but I can't help but feel there's a bit of understatement going on! hehe

Thank god it was a school gate and not a school kid!

Is this a wind-up? laugh

I'm surprised they would have written off a £15k car for a damaged radiator!
Even if it wrecked the bumper, bonnet, and a wing then surely that couldn't even go above £5k? Even accounting for ruinous credit hire costs.

You may well find your insurer only required you to declare points less than 3 years ago, or you may be lucky and they may not check for this claim (possibly because it wasn't her driving, so her driving history wouldn't be relevant)

I read about a similar case before. The insurance company worked out that if the named driver on the policy had declared their points the premium would be a certain percentage higher. The insurance settlement was reduced by that percentage.

This should be the correct answer . The policy can only be voided if, had they known the true postion, they would not have offered cover in ghr first place

I might be missing something here but if the insurance is all taken care of, what’s the issue?

I’ve had a few claims and never been asked about my own driving record, never mind that of named drivers.

Given the wife was not driving I’m not convinced they would even consider her driving license in this scenario.

Many things don’t add up here, but if your wife wasn’t driving at the time of the accident, are the insurers likely to find out about her points?

If the car gets written off, you’ll need a new vehicle and new policy, at which point you get quotes including the points on her license and your at-fault accident.

Am I right: the gate post did not break but managed to destroy the radiator?

Maybe the lack of availability of parts meant the costs of a lengthy courtesy car hire would have been excessive hence a write-off over a seemingly easy to repair accident.

AIUI it is the policyholder's responsibility that ensure that everyone on the policy is complying with the T&Cs, i.e. declared points, accidents, claims, etc. I don't think it matters who is claiming at the time.

They could just run a driving licence check and find out, which for a total loss claim you'd assume they would do.

Except...

So who knows. Maybe they checked and it wasn't material, or maybe they didn't check.

It might also be interesting to know how long the engine was run with no coolant in it...
