Yep they got me at 3.30am through an average on the A406. I was completely knackered that day and knew it was coming. Thought it might be worse.

Been offered a speed awareness as I have never done one.

I read in the Sunday Times today that the tolerance has been dropped by 1 mph so it’s now 10% plus 1.

10% + 2 is where prosecution starts, not the safe margin. If the ST is saying 10% + 1 is the safe zone, nothing has changed.

Can’t post article here but general gist was 259% increase in prosecutions recently. Blah blah.

I personally thought it was always just 10% for error.

“The Met reduced its speed tolerances from a formula of 10 per cent plus 3mph (25mph in a 20 zone) to 10 per cent plus 2mph on May 14, 2019, but did not announce it.”

Where enforcement starts. A fixed penalty is not a prosecution. Neither is a course.

Not a hooligan, but pretty stupid if he’s moaning he got caught.
We all run the gauntlet occasionally, but it’s a risk we accept and should take our punishment with grace if we pull the short straw smile

On my speed awareness course, I was told this tolerance wasn’t to be relied on.

There was a guy on it aghast he was camera’d for doing 31mph in a 30mph zone, he kept moaning it wasn’t fair etc. The instructor asked him where he was flashed. It was one of the tunnels under the Thames, I forget which one. Because of a high accident rate, that camera had been set at 30 mph on the nose.

FWIW, I really enjoyed my speed awareness course. Especially the accident breakdowns the instructor did. I went on to do the IAM Advanced Driving course because he recommended it. Really enjoyed that as well. Never thought I’d wind on full lock as quickly as possible on a runway at 90 mph for the sake of education.

A speed awareness course for 1mph over posted limit?

Yes, the instructor on it said 1mph over is still breaking the law, in response to his whining.

Yeah I don’t usually flaunt it on A406. Total lapse on my part.

Somebody is telling porkies.

Speed awareness courses are not offered for 1mph over the limit, no action can be taken for that speed unless you are not in the UK. It is common in some Commonwealth countries.
