Hi all, hoping someone can give me some advice.
I recently ordered a ulys motorway toll tag for a trip to France. The problems started when ulys were supposed to take 1euro from my account for verification purposes. The second issue is parcel force lost the parcel (and were absolutely useless when I tried to contact them. I had an email from ulys about the payment issue prior to my holiday saying I would either have to pay a one off fee or send the tag back. As it was so close to my holiday I cut my losses and ordered one from a different company.
For the last 3 weeks I'd heard nothing until today when I receive a letter in French saying my details have been passed onto a debt collection agency and I owe them a late penalty payment of 18%, not sure the figure I owe 18% on though. I don't want to ignore this but I'm not sure where to start.
I did email them at the time saying it was lost in the post but heard nothing back.
Ironically the tag also turned up today!
Anyone thinking of getting one of these tags for travel in Europe, do not go with ulys.....

I have a Ulys tag and its fine. I think your issue is with the delivery service that Ulys chose to fulfil their contract.

I think you need to write to them, preferably in French, and explain as clearly as possible the circumstances, like you have set out here. If you send a copy of the invoice and a photo of the tag you have used it should then be clear to them that they are in error and that you have acted reasonably in the circumstances. They know that their tag has not been used.

Hope you get a good response.

Why dont you just use Emovis for French and Spanish tags? Based in Harrogate, everything in English and very efficient.

Same thing here. It seems these guys are taking the mick completely. My bank account was accepted on application, but then they claim the 1 euro couldn't be taken via direct debit. Either way, it was a bit irrelevant because the tag turned up after I'd left for France (they said it would be with me in about 2-3 days, it took about 7-10).

Then a couple of letters in French which landed while I was away, then referral to a litigation firm. All communication was in French, despite the website I used to order the tag being in English.

I'm kind of resigned to settling this with the litigation firm when the letter arrives, but it seems that this could and should be challenged by someone with legal connections / abilities...

That's exactly what I did in the end, ordered one a few days before I left. It turned up on time and worked perfectly

I emailed them before I left for the holiday saying the tag had been lost in the post and it was down to them to claim. Looking at the feedback since, a lot of people are having the same problem and they don't respond to anything

I'm also of the mind that I will just settle with the debt company (depending on the amount), although really it is their problem not mine and should be challenged

I'm also in the same situation! Mine was supposed to arrive August 12th but didn't turn up till after we'd left for France on the 18th. When we got back I sent them an email complaining and to ask for advice on how to close the account and return the thing but got no response. Then discovered the withdrawal form which I printed and filled in. Last week I posted the whole unopened package back to them so will see what happens. In the meantime I've had the letter and email saying that I've been passed to debt collectors.

I don’t follow.

You purchased a tag and it was delayed. Fine.

What on earth are they chasing you for and doing debt collection etc ?

You have not used it so can’t owe them any money

Presumably the tag+shipping costs them more than the €1 they deduct from your account, and the agreement is that you get the tag for €1/free on the basis that you use it?

The vast majority of French buisnesses will ignore you unless you write to them using recorded delivery.
Don't even bother trying to phone or email. We have a saying here in France; A problem ignored is a problem solved.

The issue is with the fact that the euro is never taken because of some issue with them not being able to direct debit the account I provided. As a result of the direct debit issue, this means they wouldn't be able to debit the toll fees when the tag is used. Instead, they ask for a euro40 deposit to be paid into their account. This I never had a chance to do - all their correspondence is in French etc so they instruct a debt collector... Screwed up on so many levels.

Resurrecting this thread if possible.

Same issue as previous poster.
Set up an account. IBAN accepted. Electronic card received. Now receiving threatening emails telling me as it has been impossible to process the 1€ test payment, I’m now going to be ‘fined’ 40€!

I’ve emailed back with my euro account details - no mention when I signed up that the account couldn’t be in sterling - automatic acknowledgment received but no response. Second threatening email received today. Why send out the card before doing the test in the first place?

Just wondered how and if anyone actually got a resolution to this stupidity?
I’m trying to find an address to send the bloody thing back recorded post too because I’m so fed up with it,
