RIP indeed.
A bit close to home for me: my dad was a serving officer in North Wales Police at the time. He and several others were drafted in to support their Metropolitan colleagues, although he never found himself posted on Broadwater Farm, mercifully, and was only there for a few days.

Same feelings here. My old man was also North Wales and on the PSU at the time. He wasn't sent there but did various other big riots in the 80s and had his fair share of narrow escapes. But for the grace of God and all that. A bit close to home for me: my dad was a serving officer in North Wales Police at the time. The image of PC Blakelock's overalls sends shivers down my spine.
