After some advice or perhaps experience?

Had my motorbike stolen last week, which is coming up to it's annual ved renewal (in a few days time I think)

It's about £100pa, so not huge, but not a sum I want to lose, or have to spend ages chasing.

The direct debit is set up to take it automatically each year in full.

Insurance have been informed, and I'm sending off my v5 tomorrow (not been told to fill any parts in)

As I am still the registered keeper, I guess I either need to tax it, or sorn it?

But a sorn seems daft, given I can't say with any certainty it's location! (Probably still in the northern hemisphere I suppose)

I could just tax it monthly, and get a refund on any tax paid when my insurers finally tell the DVLA it's been declared a loss (or whatever it's called), but I full expect this to take a few weeks.

I would prefer to just not pay anything, but this would need me to not be the registered keeper I guess, or a sorn.

Any thoughts appreciated.

You are over thinking things, just sorn it, you can then remove the sorn at any time if it turns up.

You don't need to advise an address when putting on SORN. You will remain the registered keeper until the matter is resolved by either the insurance company paying out (presuming fully comp.) or the police finding the bike and it being returned to you.

Ok thanks all

I do occasionally overthink things, but just thought they'd be some guidance on it, given it must have happened to someone before.

I will sorn it, and wait for the insurance company's derisory offer.

Still, new bike to choose, so could be worse.
