Trying to work out if I have anyway to claim on a white goods item that has failed very early in life but wasn't bought direct by the user from the original company.

Purchased a white goods electronics item from a third party, a local seller. Item is defective and original seller is no longer available / in business / locatable - i'm not clear on how they ended up selling this stock.

Contacted manufacturer of said item who advised they would replace if I was in continental USA. However as i'm in the UK i'd need to contact the company that deals with the warranty in the UK - in this case Costco.

Costco - understandably - want to know which Costco store the item was purchased from.

My query is - does the manufacturers guarantee become ineligible if not sold through what appears to be the only distribution channel? Or should Costco discount that aspect and deal with the items guarantee?

Thanks

Was it bought using a credit card?

The legal minimum guarantee should be transferable I believe, long warranties less so.

If I understand correctly that the item's sales route was Manufacturer -> Costco -> Retailer -> Local Seller, I rather suspect that, with no accompanying paperwork, your chances may be very slim.
