How much 'teeth' do these have?

“We served an EN (Enforcement Notice) for the demolition of the unauthorised structure when the owner lost at appeal. We are in discussions with the owner re timeline. Compliance with the notice was due by July 1, 2022.”

In discussions? It doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

Individuals served with an EN have right of appeal up to Secretary of State level. Once that is exhausted, failure to comply with an EN is a criminal offence and the council ultimately has the power to enforce the EN directly and recover all their costs (legal, admin, demolition works) through the courts.

It can take a long time, but it has teeth. This case took 10 years, but they got there in the end:

In the article the owners say they haven't been told to demolish it, and its staying. Delusional!

Unfortunately we all have to abide by planning and building control. You can't just build a house on your drive and think you will get away with it.

It appeared on my Facebook feed for some reason and the number of people who were of the opinion that it was their land and they should be able to do what they want with it was quite depressing.
