Leaseholder rent
Discussion
I am being chased for ground rent by a local firm of solicitors who are known for their sharp practices.
The notice that they are giving on behalf of is a property company that was dissolved over a decade ago.
They're asking for me to pay backdated rent to their own solicitor's account which in itself may not be so unusual, however i am suspicious that the money i pay over to them will probably stay with them so i am reluctant to just pay up
Is there any way of subtly seeking confirmation that this is legit (other than obviously asking them). They're as slippery as anything but the fact that they're chasing on behalf of a company that doesn't exist just doesn't seem right

They clearly cannot be acting on behalf of a company that no longer exits. The notice that they are giving on behalf of is a property company that was dissolved over a decade ago.

How was the company dissolved? If it was struck off then all its assets are Bona Vacantia - ie the Crown owns it.

Firstly they can only ask for a maximum 6 years back-rent (assuming you've not previously heard from them). The notice that they are giving on behalf of is a property company that was dissolved over a decade ago.

You can check who owns the freehold to the property by looking on the land registry website.
