I have just completed a trip to Taunton, but had to call at a place in Wales on the way there. Coming through Builth Wells was a Talivan parked wrong way round on opposite side, in bus stop. I may have been slightly over 30mph (2-3mph)at this point. The question is do the Welsh death camera vans get you from both ways - front and rear? And am I going to have to wait 2 weeks to find out.

I had vowed never to contribute to the welsh economy again, but had no choice.

You should be fine for 32/33mph, especially as your speedo might be a few percent out.

Don't fret, sit out the 14 days and then breathe

Did you happen to get the plate of the Talivan? Just, IIRC they are not legally entitled to park in a bus station for this sort of thing, no harm trying to get the driver 3 points, is there?

Once plod get 6 points they can't drive plodmobiles anymore... If WE get them all banned.........

Afraid not - Talivans are perfectly entitled to park in bus stops with the authorisation of the bus company and council.

Are you sure about that?

I thought it was a Road Traffic Act thing (Bus lane, and bus stop) rather than council controlled, and when I spoke to a chap from the Met (whilst prosecuting one of his officers for lying on his speeding form) he said that loads of officers park illegally and get nicked for it.....

Bstads.

So, they were shooting directly at you out the back of the van, they've got a long range too. Knowing the Welsh they would prob prosicute for 32.
Good luck anyway and like you say, try not to go there ever again!

Builth wells is a just 30 limit. Breaking it is foolish and you deserve to get punished.

It is also the only proper town you end up travelling through on that route if you use the abergavenney (sp?) bypass. Many people seem to treat it like the country villages and continue blithely at 60.

Hollywood Wheels, my mistake, I think it is 9 points.. If you are a copper, I suggest you actually speak to traffic about this, and verify.. Most coppers are not aware of this rule.. Internal Affairs type bods are though....

No i think you might be right jas. I think you can't apply for any driving course if you have more than 6 points on either your private or Police licence. If you are already a driver (response, advanced whatever...) you can still drive with up to the maximum on your police permit or 9 on your private licence. Bit of a sore point with me at the mo, but i won't be going into that!.....

Are you saying 32 is foolish and worthy of punishment?

Srry, I shouldn't be asking that you've already said it.

Sorry didn't mean to offend, but IMO the Welsh camera partnerships are a little over zealous.
Not sure, but didn't S.Wales scam the most motorists last year?
I really do detest the way they catch all those people supporting events at the Millenium Stadium. The number of supporters who've been done for 80 on the M4 after the tolls must be astronomical.

'Welcome to Wales - please bring your wallet'

As has been said before, it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't done under the pretence of safety. Atleast 'speed tax' would be honest.

I'm not a fan of scammers but the idea of the "football supporters" getting speeding tickets after spending all day in Cardiff, pissing puking and littering the streets, screwing up the roads and blowing those bloody air horns all day... well... it brings a smile to my face.

The sooner Wembley is finished the better!

The big footy events have always been a big earner. I would be travelling out of Wales with work on many of these events and the camera would be catching them comming down from Monmouth on the dual carrage way, on my way home in the evening I see it has shifted sides to catch them going home.

Anyhow, the local saftey camera partnership site lists a fair few of the devils

Just had a look at the South Wales speed tax site...

Had a gander at their pdf document listing where the mobile cameras will be placed this week

There are hundreds (couldn't be bothered to count) of sites listed as places that will be visited this week. Very underhand, and intentially vague!

The "safety" camera partnership regularly advertises their bullshit on Real Radio in Wales ending with this tagline:

"it's not an accident if you're speeding"

So... if I'm doing 100mph and I hit a wall... I haven't had an accident, whereas if I hit the same wall at 30mph... it is?

Don't think they've thought this one through.

Wnakers!

That is hilariously crap!

I bet the tr had a lovely smug grin when he managed to rub two brain cells together to think up that gem.

I agree that the tactics are not to everyones taste but you have to remember that any big event will atract the attention of the scamera partnerships, it just so happens Cardiff has been the centre of attention for sporting events over the last few years with the WRC, Football and others like the Speedway GP. So blaming Wales itself for this increase in camera numbers is a bit blindfolded, we are trying to tell you something, we are using English based government tactics to scare you out of our land so we can enjoy the camera free roads we know all to ourselfs

I see what you mean but I don't own an hotel, bar, restaurant, taxi or petrol station so i don't give a toss. Also the retail traders do very little business on event days as the real shoppers stay away because of the road closures and the general behaviour of the visitors.

On the other hand I DO live in the centre of Cardiff right next to that poxy stadium and whereas, when I first bought the property there were only 3 or 4 events a year there are now approaching 25-30. I'm fed up of arranging my life around road closures.

It's only the football events I object to. It's fans make the most noise (bloody airhorns ALL DAY!), leave the biggest amount of litter, are the worst behaved (screaming, puking, pissing and fighting in the streets) and cause the greatest traffic congestion.

Wembley are welcome to the millions and the mess.
