How do I find out what the restrictive covenants are on my property? I'm sure I was told when I bought it but decided I wasn't going to do anything they said I wasn't allowed to so forgot all the details

I know there are some, but....

They should be in the pack at time of purchase, Your solicitor should have gone through it as well.

We've got a bunch of these in place on our house,

and one of them is that we aren't allowed to erect any kind of fence or barrier to the front of the property which is exactly what we want to do,

some of the other neighbours have one form of boundary or another in place so they've either completely ignored the covenant and took their chances,or they've managed to get the covenant lifted /been granted permission etc

the houses were built around 50 years ago so it's hard to imagine anyone cares any more but I think I'm inclined to ask whoever put the covenants in place for their position on the matter before we start spending large amounts of money getting walls built,

details of all the covenants in place on our house were listed in the searches carried out during the buying process.

I'm pretty sure there's a 'no front fence' clause on mine. But since I had no intention of doing anything the covenants blocked I didn't worry about it at the time. Now, 20 years later, I'm curious about what else it might say.

Have you lost the paperwork from the sale? It's fine if you have, that isn't a PH snort of derision, it's just in this day and age it's surprising how many people's first thought is to try and find information on their phone when that's not necessarily the best way to find that information.

If you have the paperwork (it will be those poor quality copies, slightly damaged, in a paper folder that you intended to file properly, at the back of a cupboard filled with crap in a room you rarely go in) that will show it.

Otherwise contact your local land registry.

Loads on mine, 50 year old house

No sheds
No caravans
No extensions
Etc

The deeds say you can send 30p to request permission

90% of houses in my road have broken one or more. Nobody cares.

I guess it was designed to keep
it looking nice when brand new, while still being sold, in my case.

You can download a copy of your property register from the Land Registry - https://www.gov.uk/search-property-information-lan...

When you have it, look in the `Charges Register', where the restrictive covenants will be listed.

Just because there's a restrictive covenant though, don't make the mistake of thinking it can be enforced against you, as many can't. Get some legal advice if you're not sure and it's of any real importance to you.
