I had an old Rover 600 parked up on private land (SORN'd) which some scrotes have winched onto a low loader Iveco and been off with.

Police won't be of much help but I still have the log book - should I return to the DVLA stating it has been stolen?

The vehicle is too old to really be used for parts so likely they will just scrap it.

You can report it to police so it has a stolen marker recorded with DVLA, then when its taken to scrap yard and they submit paperwork the DVLA will notify the police of the scrapyard report. That probably won't lead to anything unless the thief has provided the scrapyard with their true details. which they won't have.

But of you don't report it as stolen then the police and DVLA will still assume you still own it which could cause you problems, such as if the number plate is put on another vehicle etc.

You definitely need to report it as stolen.

It will stop some one from applying for the logbook, when the car is discovered abandoned in a lockup on some future date.

Also, is there any chance the landowner had it removed?

Technically you do still own it and will be liable for removal costs if it turns up dumped.

Reported to Police with CCTV evidence who promptly said they cannot do anything, the case is closed and gave me a crime reference number.

I'll write to the DVLA, enclosing the log book and explaining that it has been stolen.

You’ll not need to contact DVLA at all. The police will be doing that

I'd just hang on to the logbook. No need to contact the DVLA - its you car. Never know - it might be recovered fully restored! (Doubtful I know)

Out of curiosity, who owned the land it was left on?

Is it worth the trouble? More useful for banger racing…

Is it not insured then?

Just hang on to your crime reference number should anything happen later, eg dumped somewhere else.

It was stored on private land to which I have a right of access/way/shared use. Not disposed of by the land owners.
Uninsured and sorn'd. Not worth much at all so likely scrapped.

Which model ?

The diesels are still much sought after.

The Ti was always interesting & still sought after, and T series engine and/or the PG1 gearbox can fetch good money.

The 1.8, 2.0 & 2.3 Honda engines, yeah not so much.
