Reading some articals on speeding and various sites etc etc on PH and can across this

http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/dcsc/funding/index.htm

There is a statement which reads

However, for this Casualty Reduction scheme, the Government has approved a new arrangement which enables us to recover operational costs directly associated with the ‘hypothecation’ sites. These are sites that have a proven history of KSIs (killed or seriously injured).

Now this does make sense agreed, it then goes on to say

Remember - this means that we are funded only by those motorists who have been caught for speeding at a casualty ‘hot spot’. This road safety project operates at no extra cost to the Constabulary or the public and the cameras are used only for safety reasons.

right I get this bit... Now this was the bit that shocked me...

Profit earned for the year... Nearly £1.1million...

Flooping ell, the statement said recover operational costs.

And you are surprised? Of course they make millions, why do you think they are spending millions to research new ways of catching speeding motorists? You have to speculate to accumulate....

Operational costs are as big as they need to be to keep most of the huge sums involved. Pay rise? of course.... new offices with high quality furnishings, done deal. Nice new van with comfortable seating and climate control - well that's obviously an operational expense. See it's easy, £1.1 mill a drop in the ocean.

Of course not, if safety issues were addressed properly, then there would be no need for an invalid crusade in favour of speed control.
