Fantastic news, our overlords have decided 70mph is too fast. Spineless.

So amazing we have these great minds helping us. 20mph limit in Wales and 64mph on the motorway. Who needs personal agency anyway?

Rights once gone never come back.

Nothing in that link says anything is decided.

The part about heavier cars emitting more with the same engine (Puma vs Fiesta used as comparison) will delight half the site however!

After the headline there's a bit of a blurb on EV's, so will they be the only vehicles allowed into city centers on a Sunday?
To enforce the new speed limits will all the cars that currently have the ISA speed limiters be activated, and the drivers ability to turn them off removed?
Saving 2.7 million gallons of oil per day globally is literally a drop in a bucket as the world consumes over 4 billion gallons of oil each day.
More to this than meets the eye, and IMHO it's a justification to enact more restrictions on ICE cars to accelerate their demise.

A slight reduction in NSL round here won’t have the slightly bit of difference; most of the locals seem to max out at 50 in a 60 anyway.

Will EVs be exempt from lower limits?

On a slight side note and slightly unrelated, the M6 through Birmingham often has 60 posted on the gantries along with the message “speed limit for air quality”. Air quality in Birmingham around the M6 would be greatly improved if they bulldozed the toll plazas on the M6 Toll and made it free for all users; thereby removing much of the north-south traffic that’s passing through Birmingham on journeys to other places, but don’t fancy paying almost £8 one way along the Toll.

Make the Toll free and suddenly I would imagine the numbers of vehicles on the M6 through Birmingham would drop drastically. But no, air quality shall continue to suffer in the interests of business and profits.

There's been a ban on any truck over 7.5t on Sundays in many European countries for years. The exception being reefers.
Try getting onto any Aires on a Sunday in France..biggrin

This sort of stuff is so attractive to politicians because it makes it look like they are doing something useful.

Even though they may be doing a terrible job generally, they can always point proudly to their planet saving achievements.

Most people sit around 64-67 anyway as they don't realise their speedo over-reads.

Not in Wales on the emissions-driven speed limits on the M4. Something about not being able to seperate vehicle categories, which we all know to be false.

Walking is greener than driving just leave earlier. How about just we stop having children they can never grow up to cause emissions.

It’s not a bad idea but the economy is reliant on growth so it’s not a popular option.
