Post if youve had your car broken into
Discussion
Had my mondeo broken into in Manchester, smashed the side window and took the stereo even though I had removed the face plate. Ford stereos are easy to take apparantly (the windscreen place spends most of its time repairing focus and mondeo cars). The face plate is not coded to the stereo so is still usable. Phones the police for the ref number. Told to take the car to the police station so they could dust the dash for prints. Couldn't really see the point in wasting their time as it will be long gone.
well, in the last 10 years at my house weve had
3 x car theft (2 golf 4motions and a v6 mx3)
1 x break in (ax - stole speakers and amp)
1 x attempted break in - brothers 200sx
2 x vandalism - both wing mirrors (volvo 440 + puma).
on no occasion did the police even turn up to check for evidence etc. i think were just a bit unlucky tho. no one else in my street has as much bother.

Where I used to live:
My fiesta - 5 smashed rear quarter windows..
My Metro - One smashed front window (but I only had it about 2months)
Mums Carlton - Rear windows, smashed twice.
Dads work van - Stolen about every other Sunday for around 3 months. Always recovered about 1 mile away. Police think someone gets off at station and then drives nearer to home. Police not interested in staking out the car park on Sundays, and advise us not to "talk" to the person concerned. Dad has to remove engine parts from then on.
Where I live now
Elise - One brick through the rear window. Suspect a neighbour with whom we are often rowing.. Police as I am sure you know, leaping over themselves to help, turning up in just 5 days.

Spotted bloke breaking into car. I phoned the police, and by the time I'd put the phone down & walked back to the front of the house 2 squad cars had arrived! That's what I call service!

Just recently have the stereo taken from the landy, along with an empty, and very old and tired, shades case (
WTF?) and a locked crooklock that I'd forgotten to use (

WTF?)
Over the last few years we've had a couple of other break ins to the "shed" (a 1980 fiesta) Quite why they had to break the window when yo only had to sneeze on it for the door to open
We've also had various keyings, smashed wing mirrors, broken ariels and footprints on bonnet and roof.
That lot combined with an attempted break-in and some graffiti on the garage door has probably amounted to a good couple of grand in 5 years
But for my own sanity I try not to think about that

Years ago, 2 break-ins within the space of 4 days.
Number one: put a brick through the rear windscreen to liberate a pair of speakers.
Number two: ripped out door lock then gave door a bloody good kicking, presumably when the alarm went off.
Curiously, when the rear windscreen was put through, the alarm didn't go off. Company that fitted it told me they're not designed to cover that area of the car

When I lived in Liverpool, twice - in the 1980s.
5 years ago in Brighton, BMW 318i, passenger lock scredrivered and stereo system stolen. (Police reply: lots of them done in that car park!)
Since then bought car with deadlocks and shielded locks (Fiesta Ghia) and removeable stereo panel.
Never again.. Only buy future cars with deadlocks and shielded locks.
Cars garaged at home. Security lights.

1 break in, had stereo nicked from outside a customers office, £1500 of damage, Police not interested, gave me a crime no and the letter said something like 'we are unlikely to catch anyone for this' but they got me for speeding a couple of weeks later - nice to know they've got their priorities right

various cars broken into around 8 times
one car attempted theft for all of 20 yards (steering lock not released
)
one wing mirror vandalised
Windows smashed for no apparent reason, except it was a VW and Englerlund had just beaten Germany.
PITA, but part of life these days, unfortunately.
At least the last lot did a reasonably professional job of removing the head unit and changer...

Old mk2 Cav - both door locks drilled out but the feckwits still didn't manage to get in!
GTV - pax window smashed in but kiddies (well, 16+ I presume as they came on mopeds) were scared off by a neighbour (who didn't think to tell me, so the car sat for the best part of a day with the broken window as I walked to work that day
