Hi everyone I'm new here I've got a ticket for parking in a bus stop cage. The other day I went to barking where I usually park on a street next to a bus cage. They have renewed the yellow paint to make it clearer but they made the cage over 20 meters longer than the usual cage and hadn't finished the yellow line where car where parked the day they painted the yellow line. So there was still two cars when I parked and I wasn't on any yellow line and the other cars had no tickets on them. When I came back I had a ticket even tho I wasn't parked on a big yellow line.
Any advice would be helpful before I contest the ticket .
Thanks in advance

Your best advice would be probably going to Pepipoo.

Whereabouts in Barking?

I assume you took lots of pictures on return to your car, and pictures are available to view online linked to the PCN?

It's the broken yellow markings within which the bus parks. HTH.

ETA OP I would contest it, but only if there was no yellow line marking anywhere by your car. Bus stops do not require a TRO, so there is no advertising procedure required. The markings are statutory, when paired with a sign plate (usually mounted on the shelter or the flag), but it would be a particularly knobbish authority that would mark a new line around a pre-existing car, and then immediately issue a ticket.

A google streetview link would be helpful.

And this one has been extended by 20m? How long are the buses?

They can be as long as they like. A standard cage is between 10 and 20m for a single bus, and if you are expecting many buses to stop there then they can be the entire length of the road, if appropriate.

The buses still need to be able to pull in and pull out. Dedicated bus stop kerbing (and buses) are often adapted for easy wheelchair entry and egress, so they need to be able to park appropriately to that part of the kerb.

Don't forget that buses, especially next-gen electric "tram" types, have doors in the middle and at the rear as well as the front, so many (new) bus stops have the high kerbing along the entire length of the halt area.
