It gets even sillier in today's "Express" - page 47

Couple's car fialed MOT on windscreen crack so they arranged for firm to come to fix it. The engaged coople had to fork out over £300 from wedding savings to retreive their car after it got towed away by over-zealous numpty clampers who refused to back down. :ranting:

The coupld share a house und pay for a parking bay outside it. But because the windscreen was to be fitted - Michael left little note tucked in windscreen wiper to say tax disc und parking permit were on passenger seat until new windscreen is fixed whilst he is at work - und he ist nice bloke who uses public transport to get there some days... Clampers actually knew the car as ist regular patrol spot too  und couple were on good term mit these clamping clowns before this incident.

The clamper claims he never saw the documents on the passneger seat und firm's boss insists the clamp und fine were correct und consider matter closed. It seem they should have requested some other code to place on dashboard...

Naturally couple are upset und it was another " I don't belieeeeve it!" when they got home from work to find car had been clamped und towed away....

You could not make this up .... Clampers were used to seeing this vehicle parked on the driveway und knew it had valid permit und right to be there.... Daft...

It just say the couple (aged 25/29) dealt with the clamping cowboys...

Wonder if they can still fight this.. it cost £334 in total costs to them... allegedly in paper.

They should check that the clamping outfit is legit. By that, I mean make sure the clamper can produce his Security Industry Authority badge to you. He must do so on request. If he can't or won't, call the Police. They are committing the criminal offence of Engaging in Licensable Conduct without a Licence.

If they are not SIA registered, cut the clamp off. You cannot be prosecuted for the damage to the clamp as it was placed unlawfully. I would go as far as to say your Human Rights i.e. lawful enjoyment of possessions, namely your car have been infringed.

Check out the SIA website for full details and complaints procedures.

Just re-read Wildcats's post and without research-

Could it be that they have a residents parking bay.
Conditions demand that they display evidence that they are legit. If not then illegal parking and LA. do they not have power under statute to remove, store and charge a release from storage fee.?

Not exactly clampers as we know them and who generally operate on pieces of private land.

Only one answer to clampers cut of the clamp then beat the shit out of them. No words needed.

And why are campers not being beaten to death in car load lots? If they tried something like that here they would be.

Or perhaps shot.

Because they're usually big and ugly fat buggers who prey on housewives with kids etc. Not 5 rugby fans returning to their car.

A happy tale that will make you smile. Mate of mine got clamped in London many years ago. It was one of the London Council lot. He realised that if you parked in certain places or remained for a certain time you were towed. He spent every Saturday for about 3 months aquiring MOT failed cars for virtually no cash, and then parked them where he shouldn't. Car got towed. Repeat.

He took great pleasure in watching the Councils car pound become a scrap yard and end up costing the council a fortune to dispose of the cars! I reckon he must have done it about 10 times until he got it out of his system.
