MOT and repairs and driving

So, took my car in months ago to look at and book MOT. They said they wouldn't do a test as tehre was a gaping hole in the rear part of the sill and near the seatbelt, so it will fail and I need to get it repaired. So...fast forward months and I finally had the money for the welding, not far from the garage and my home. They come get the car and weld it. I am off to pick it up in a bit, and my MOT is booked for the 13th...BUT I had a thought, and although I know you can drive the car without dangerous issues to and from a place of repair after an MOT fail...I've technically not had the MOT yet, so I guess I am screwed despite the garage advising it needs repairs pre-MOT.

Trade plates have nothing to do with it, they are for roadtax.

If its been off the road for months, personally i would get it mot'd again, yes you know its going to fail but it might fail on something else.

To get it from yours to the welders then to be legal it needs to be trailered. You can only drive it to the MOT test centre for a pre booked appointment. It must be insured.

I would have but it would have failed anyway and I'd lose the money as I couldn't get a retest soon enough

It is booked in for MOT but the earliest was the 13th Feb.

The exemption from road tax extends to:

1) To and from an MoT

and

2) To and from a place of repair.

Therefore you can collect it from the place of repair.

That exemption only applies after a failed test.

Would the welders' allow you to leave it there until the 13th, then just drive it to your pre booked MOT.
Or if they trailered it there, would they be willing to trailer it back? Then you would have it back at yours where you could give it a good check over before it's MOT.

But if it hasn't failed an MOT you can drive it from wherever it is. Just book an MOT and drive it there.

Yes this was my query. I guess you have to get the test to see if there are other dangerous faults that you do not know about.

I've arranged for a friend of a friend to put it on the back of a trailer, so mates rates thank God!

MOT's make me so anxious lol...I guess that's the hazard with owning old Renaults!
