Cancelling Road tax DD early
Discussion
Yes, I realise it's actually 'Vehicle Excise duty'.
In my excitement for the first signs of Spring I taxed the car. always pay monthly. Taxed from 1st March and the first payment goes out on the 15th. I've since realised due to work, holidays and hopefully being drunk, I'll not use the car until at least April so wondering if I can save myself £45.
What happens if I now SORN the car and cancel the direct debit?
I've a feeling I know what the answer is but wondering if anyone has an ACTUAL experience?
A couple of additional points of note:
The dvla online system wont let you retax the car for a number of days after declaring sorn (maybe 7?) i think you can do it at a post office after filling in numerous forms no doubt.
You may still get a direct debit payment taken if you sorn on the last day of the month, dont panic it gets refunded automatically after about 10 days.
Both examples from my personal experience.

I was paying monthly but SORNed my car four days before the new month started and the blighters still took payment.
Presumably then refunded? It’s widely known a direct debit starts being applied for a number of days before it is taken. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
