Today I received a penalty from Dart Charge (Dartford Crossing). As it's the first one I just paid the £5 so no issue. But I discovered that my Dart Charge account has been closed due to inactivity. Apparently you get an e-mail warning after 12 months of inactivity, and then it is automatically closed 90 days later if there is no request to keep it open.

Here's the mad part: you cannot reopen it from the Dart Charge web site. And you cannot register another account using the same e-mail address!

That's a bit odd, made me login to my account. Last time I used it was Sept 2021. Account still active.
I have to say that whenever I've had an issue (car changed on private plate but I'd forgot to update Dart account) they were very understanding and used common sense rather than just "computer says no" approach.

I've not used mine for at least 3 years and have just logged into it fine.

Mine was 07/04/2019 so it can't be time since last crossing.

About once a year I would get an email if there were no crossings. Prior to covid you could call up, add £1 and it would extend the account for another year.
Post covid, there was an email from them and a button on the website to extend the account, at zero cost.
