Scotland Speeding & No Insurance - Solicitor Recommendations
Discussion
Police were polite & professional throughout.
I was polite and contrite likewise. Attitude test passed I think.
FPN was about to be entered then insurance check and that's where the rain became a downpour.
Speeding - yes wholly my fault, fair cop etc, band B A74(M).
Insurance - I have been away from home for 5 weeks, caught on way home today, I live in Scotland too. Auto-renewal date was early in that time. I changed a detail (removed partner from the policy as she doesn't drive this car) before going away and all seemed in order.
On or about the renewal date an email subject "Your Documents From <insurance provider>" was received. I did not open it as I thought this was the usual routine "they're on our website" kind of thing. It wasn't, it was a failure of payment notification.
I was able to show this email to the police and while he agreed the title was unhelpfully vague the offence being absolute had to result in it going further. Although he said he'd put that in his evidence.
I also didn't spot the missing payment on the credit card statement. Credit card was renewed this year so I should have expected that this was possible but did not.
Now I'm home there are the letters telling me about the missed payment which I would have opened had I have been there!
I was able to immediately get cover again by 'phone from the roadside and continue. So avoided seizure.
Until I get the papers there isn't much more to do but worry.
Will I have to do the suit and boot court thing to plead, likely guilty to both contritely? It's a 4hr drive away.
Am I due a (hopefully short) ban or will I get, say, one less than max points as 6 seems usual for each offence?
