I was considering selling my Land Rover and wanted to get a valuation. The enquiry came back saying that my car is apparently a Cat S write off on the MIAFTR register
But there is a problem with that:
1. the car has never been in an accident during its time with me (4 years)
2. the car was never in an accident with the original owner (I am the second)
3. according to MIAFTR register the loss occurred in 1999 - but that's 10 years before the car was even built and thus 10 years before the registration plate was issued.
4. the V5C makes no mention of a Cat S status (or any other status)
5. I ran a check when I bought the car and it was all clear at that point
I have written to MIAFTR to query the point, but in the experience of the PH Massive what is the likelihood that this error will be corrected?

No, its not. Its a bog standard reg number, although the first owner did have it on a private plate.
Total loss cats are attached via the VIN nothing to do with the VRMContact the insurance company listed on the register and ask them to instruct HPI to remove it etc etc and this should solve your problem or you could ask the insurance company to put it in writing to you that your vehicle is not the one in question and they have no interest in it.
