Went to use my debit card today and was surprised along with my drivers licence it was not in the phone case.

Suspended the debit card and did a search on how to report a drivers licence missing and I keep reading that this is what I should report do, but when I go to the DVLA site all I can do is replace it.

I would like to wait a couple of days so I can look around,

So what do I do?

Wait a couple of days, look around and then replace it if doesn’t turn up? Why would you need it any time particularly soon?

Not sure there is much point in reporting it missing is there?

A replacement is likely to have the same photo (unless the photcard has expired) and your 16-digit licence number won't change as it is made up of your name, DoB and some check digits. There are two further characters that show the issue number that would change however.

Just order a new one. That will instantly make the old one reappear. I think you are meant to retunr it to DVLA if you do find it, but I'd just cut it up and chuck it.

No I don't need it, but it can be used for fraudulent purposes if someone found it, vut I will wait a few days.

Thanks for advice.

Out of interest, why do you carry your driving licence in your phone case? Mine is in a draw at home.

Grumps.

Is there much point in cancelling a driving licence as the new one will have exactly the same details on it?

Or do you get a new driver number with a replacement?

There's a serial number on the reverse at the bottom right hand side that is likely unique to that card.

As for carrying it, I frequently do for ID purposes for picking up parcels etc (not as an age check, I wish!), surely others do.

Anyone who is under 25, or looks it, will be regularly ID'd these days. My daughter and her chums all carry driving licences (many provisional as only a few have passed their tests) for this purpose.

She lost her DL a few months ago away at Uni. Got a new one, but then the old one turned up in the post here the other day. Some kind soul had found it and returned it. Goodness knows where it had been lurking for all that time however!

Or if you're regularly in the States and enter a bar at any age.

Absolutely, I always have it in my wallet. Also avoids the need for a producer if randomly stopped by the police. Why would you not carry it?

Hopefully it will win at some point. But where do you keep it?

I did this recently, not seen my wallet for a few months and needed to use my bank card. Hunted high and low and eventually gave up and ordered new stuff.
New Licence came within 3 days of me paying my £20, but still expiring this year and in need of renewal.

Moved a bookcase last weekend and there was my (dusty) wallet 😡

It is a phone case with credit card slots and place for bank notes too, I carry my licence because I sometimes need to pick stuff up and occasionally work as agency truck driver.

But found it! Phone fell off a desk but was on charge so ended up hanging by the cable, the debit card and licence slipped out and into a slightly open draw and landing vertically between the draw wall and a stack of paper. Looked i the draw 10 times before I found it

Spent my 30th birthday night in LA back in the 90s, couldn't get a drink as I'd left my passport back at the motel.

Saw a sign in a store saying that unless the person looks over 35, don't serve them alcohol.

Was at a gig in San Francisco on the same trip and left my mates to get a round of beers. You were stamped on entrance with an over 21 mark.

Ordered 5 drinks and showed my mark. Seems that unless the 4 others gave up their places at the stage and came and showed their marks too, they weren't getting beers.

Cheap round for me then smile
