Spilled oil on public road - Council?
Discussion
So the other day, having completed a basic oil service on my car, I reversed out the drive onto my street to turn around and reverse back into my drive in a different position. This involves driving a bout 200 yards to the culdesac to do a three point turn.
Now, due to what I hold my hands up to as user error, the oil filter seal (MB drop in filter style) was pinched and sprayed what I estimate to be a "buttload" of fresh golden engine oil down the road, before I made it back on to the drive to quickly shut off the engine and commence swearing.
I promptly knocked on a few doors on the street to notify and apologise. I then spent the rest of the afternoon putting down sand and put up a sign saying 'oil in road'.
My question is, as the oil is still faintly preset 2 days later (although now gritty) do I need to report this further to the council? and If so, would I incur any fines or legal issues?

No need to give the history but if pushed, say "a delivery driver came and when he left I noticed oil everywhere. Didn't get the reg or company mate".

Thanks for this. Looks like I might have to start making phone calls, the link above goes to my county council page, where it lists road spillage as a local council matter, whose page then redirects me to my local council page, which then redirects me back to the county council page for all "Road Issues".
Not sure I'm comfortable with lying about it but I guess theres no harm in just reporting the situation as it stands.
