I am currently looking after a dog, a friends boyfriend's dog.

Now the story goes he is getting divorced but they lived in the same house, wife brought a boyfriend home (which they agreed not to), argument followed, his wife's bf interfered, he pushed him, police called he gets arrested and bailed with conditions to stay away from his house.

Wife threatens to give away dog, dog has nowhere to go, i feel sorry for dog and take it in. Not seen friend or her bf now for several days.

How likely is it that his bail conditions exclude him from going home if he assaulted a guy who does not live there?

It seems a bit odd/harsh to have the conditions not to attend the address if what he has said is true…

If he has told you the truth (or your friend has told you the truth) I’m sure he could get them amended to include going home.

I met him for about 30 min and I just know what I have been told, beginning to have my doubts that is why I ask. i agree, guy should come round and walk his dog at least and clean the garden,

It would be classed as a domestic incident even though the physical assault has taken place between your friend and his wife's new boyfriend, she is still there in the middle of the scenario so the bail conditions seem likely true.

The dog being abandoned is out of order really.

He has a friend of unspecified gender who is dating a soon to be divorced dog owning guy

Soon to be divorced dog owning guy was sharing a home with dog and soon to be ex wife

Soon to be ex wife brought her new beau back to the soon to be ex marital home

A bit of push and shove occurred between soon to be divorced dog owning guy and new beau

Police were called and soon to be divorced dog owning guy and dog were told to sling their hooks

Soon to be divorced dog owning guy's new belle/beau has asked the OP to temporarily home the dog

Re-reading this its a weird slant taken in the initial post by the OP.

It's not about having been lumbered by a dog, that neither supposed owner, owners partner, owners girlfriend are coming back to see / walk etc. OP now seems to be feeding, walking and cleaning up behind it.

Says nothing about breed of dog, whether its insured / legal / registered. Whats to say BF didn't take it with out the owners permission if going through an acrimonious break up, or perhaps it bit somebody and just needs to be out of the way. Not clear if its a Bully XL or a poodle.

Whether friends BF is allowed back in to his own home is immaterial - you seem to be providing a free kennelling service.

How is your friendship with your friend, how does she feel about her new partner being so jealous about his ex?

Sounds to me like whomever the dog once belonged to, he's yours now.

My course action would be

1. Is the dog a nice dog
2. Can you see yourself keeping the dog

If so - end, just wait and what will be will be

If not

3. Find a shelter locally which you can take dog if required
4. Inform all parties and all boyfriends that dog has board and lodgings for X days or weeks after which dog goes to shelter
5. Take dog to shelter.

You've done the right thing in a bad situation, I suspect the last anyone is thinking, (other than you) is about the dog.

It's not as if the dog in the story was abandoned, there was a (likely) empty threat to give it away (to someone else...).

I am spoiling the dog!

I have no idea if it is insured (I guess my house insurance covers it) or registered. I know he went back with a police man to get his things and wife told him to take the dog or she will get rid off it.

friend is female, dog is a labradoodle
