Evening all, I'll try and keep this short.

Yesterday I was invited back to see a work mates car collection. Not knowing where he lives I ask how we'll do it, use sat nav or just follow the leader. We opt for the latter.

Heading about 10 miles down a dual carriageway (at a speed higher than I generally go at to keep up) he brakes suddenly and swerves off the road at his junction, cutting up a lorry. I pull in behind the lorry and make the junction in a more sensible fashion. A few minutes later we end up at his house. I get out of my car and jokingly say "What's with the 90's cop chase manoeuvre, late braking, cutting in front of a lorry and onto a slip road"

"Yeah sorry about that, I was writing an email"

I thought he was joking so I said something like 'yeah right' to which he very much deadpan said "No I really do, I put active cruise and active steer on and catch up on my emails, I didn't realise how close my hunction was".

He's otherwise a fairly sane chap but I was absolutely horrified that he not only admitted it but seemingly didn't have an issue with it. His car isn't a Tesla btw but a very high powered BMW.

Having been hit by a 44t lorry on the same stretch of road myself after the driver lapsed concentration and drifted into lane 2 collecting me in front of thier cab, travelling about 1/4 mile sideways until they stopped I'm already conscious that accidents can easily happen though a lapse in concentration, so willfully ignoring the basic requirements of driving (looking ahead, holding steering wheel, steering etc) is tweaking me beyond belief!

He's a nice guy but also a complete knobber for doing what he does.

Aside from continually bleeting to him that his actions are the most stupid thing I've ever heard anyone admit to what else can I do to help him reform his driving behaviour?

I'd expect recounting your experience with the lorry would be the most likely to resonate in terms of potential consequences...

Seems likely he'll kill himself and - unfortunately - other people.

However, this is PH. What was the car collection like?

I've fell out with no end of people, mostly women, who confess to texting at the wheel.
It's absolutely rife, they don't see anything wrong with it

That's my concern, more for the poor souls he takes with him.

Car collection - Aside from his bmw, a Testarossa, cerbera and 2.8 capri.

Find something good in his collection, get yourself in his will, and wait.

You've lost me, I'm clearly not up with current affairs. I don't think he's gay and he doesn't have a wife and family wink

Okay, just tried looking up 'Philip Schofield' and it came up with a thread that the moderators have deleted. Seems like I've missed a juicy thread!

I think perhaps you may have stretched the use of the word 'horrific'. The guy is clearly a danger but it didn't quite live up to the title.

Ahh, fair enough. Perhaps my fairly recent experience on the same stretch of road from a driver who wasn't concentrating has resulted in some hyperbole, so apolgies for dashing expectations.

I was expecting something much worse.

Like he always drives in the middle lane at 65mph or something.

It’s certainly worrying, but seeing the word horrific in the context of the thread title I was expecting something rather more disturbing like shagging his Nan.

Very tough one, I would be tempted to tell the Police if a strong talking to didn’t work but then he is going to know who did it….not great to dob on a mate but people get killed by this idiotic behaviour.

I was on my motorbike the other day, pulled up in 2 lanes waiting for the traffic lights and couldn’t work out why the woman next to me was at least 3 car lengths from the white line and nobody in front….she was at least 60 and was typing on Facebook….I could not get her attention waving at her right next to the window. The lights went green before I tapped on the window…she did not pull away straight away.

I have thread title remorse setting in. I wish I could change the thread title to somthing like 'stupid confession from a friend' But I'm stuck now being told my thread is disappointing wink

Ah I’m sorry OP, I don’t disagree that it’s bloody stupid and the consequences could indeed be horrific.
