They are in the process of stopping full lifers from marrying are they not? It won’t apply in time for this though.

What is the issue with him (or any prisoner) getting married? Does it confer some sort of extra rights or privileges?

Why does it cause an issue if he gets married?

If he has found someone mental enough to marry him, more fool them.

He doesn't (to my knowledge) gain anything at all from it, other than saying he has a wife.

Conjugal visits aren't permitted in the UK?

It makes him happy, and on those grounds alone, it shouldn't be allowed.

Yeah but just think how frustrated this sick bd now be with no conjugal rights! Always at arms length. His 'brides' mental health should be looked at imho, although you do here about these women who get involved with lifers for some strange reason!

Edited to add his official title!

I'm with you. This is basically a completely pointless piece of paper. Arguably the tabloids are doing the harm by reporting it, he should just be ignored. New Zealand has the right idea with having the shoot kebab guy not even being named. Can't imagine it would make a jot of difference in prison being married.

(I do think that conjugal rights should be allowed in the UK as [consensual, with a willing partner] sex is basically a human right but that is another matter and pretty much orthogonal to marriage... if we did allow that though I think there would be a case to deny it to Bellfield as he's far too dangerous to be left alone with whatever idiot would marry him).

The idea of prison is that’s it’s a punishment. It’s a loss of liberty - the loss of the right to be able to do things that law abiding people can. That includes having an intimate relationship with your partner, and IMHO, marriage.
You want to get married? Wait until you’re out. Not getting out (ie Bellfield) you can’t get married. Don’t like it? Shouldn’t have been a horrific raping murdering monster.

I've read the book written by Milly Dowler's Mother. Shocking shocking read.

This f***er shouldn't have got as far as a prison cell and I'm surprised he hasn't been 'dealt with' inside.

Fine, but the majority of people in prison are not horrific raping murdering monsters and will be getting out at some point. I would have thought intimate visits would be a good way of keeping them under control and increasing the chance of rehabilitation.

Not to mention a certain proportion will be completely innocent.

Bellfield is a red herring as no one would ever allow him to be alone with a woman again, even his idiot wife. Probably goes for any whole lifer but I can't say I know what they all did.

Regardless of your views on Bellfield, to suggest that we live in a lawless sthole is utterly ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is to suggest the reason we have the level of crime we do is because some people think we should allow conjugal rights to prisoners.

Get a grip!

In 1997 Reggie Kray got married while in prison, and so did Charles Bronson in 2017, so it's nothing new.
